What would be a nice soundfont to store in a 32mb(24mb) ram module? Would it sound as good as a sc55?

Masterpiece SF2 would be my favorite for thatbsize and yeah it would be comparable to a Sound Canvas more or less IMO.

+1, Masterpiece is great. A font that size takes ages to load on my Goldfinch though so I usually just stick to the 4MB GM one that appeared with my AWE64 software - sounds pretty good too I think.

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

Yeah, the jump in quality from 2MB to 4MB Creative soundfont is impressive, but I think the 8MB is is the sweet spot for that soundfont.

For around 4MB, the best one out there are the ones that emulate SCC-1's Sound Canvas instruments, and Yamaha XG50's instruments; they're pretty amazing for what they are.

Chromium Examples:

Windows 98 + AWE64 Gold + Chromium SoundFont loaded + Playing the above mentioned MS-DOS games via Win9x and then recorded directly from the line-out of the sound card into a second machine.

Found a lonely 32MB SIMM in my memory drawer today.. It's begging for another SIMMCONN.. I also have about 5 more AWE64s of various models begging for SIMMCONNs.. Not that I have any build that needs one, but the itch is starting to get disturbing..

I know the feeling.. but I think I have enough for all builds. Even scored an AWE64 with an original 28MB upgrade board a couple years back for an excellent price so I have the ability to have 4 AWE64 with 28MB RAM.

Hi,
I have only 4 left of the batch of assembled simmconn PCB's, then it is sold out.
So if you still need one in 2019, it is best to PM me to reserve it.

I'm going to build one myself, I assume the gerbers located at simmconn.tripod.com are still the same board layout as what has been produced in the last couple years?

Has anyone been kind enough to publish a BOM with links to digikey?

Nope, the new ones are different as at least one of the ICs from the old build is no longer available.

Here are the files I converted so they can be used in newer software:
https://circuitmaker.com/Projects/Details/Eth … -Queen/SimmConn

I think the layout may have been changed a bit since then.

Thank you, the only downloads I see on that page are a mirror of the original website and an altium file. I use kicad so not sure what I can do with that. Could I possibly trouble you to export them to gerber?

I don't have a digikey list, some parts were hard to source.
I still have blank simmconn pcb's, if you need that, I can send a few for free (only need to pay shipping cost).
I don't have machine assembled boards in stock, but I still have most parts.
So I could also make some solder kits including preprogrammed pal chips, for sale, by next week.

pm me if you are interested in one of the above.

What's the pin pitch on the 2x12 and 2x13 connectors?

2.0mm

I have all parts here now, so I can send you the missing parts and PCB's, or make some solder kits. PM me if interested.
Also, I'm preparing for next fully assembled+tested production batch, these should be ready in february.
