Also new to me...a Model M doesnt cost that much, therefore I wouldnt take the effort to modify a Terminal keyboard?

Recently I got an email from someone who asked me to disassemble the keyboard from my IBM PC Convertible and sell it loose to him. Uh no mate, it’s not going to happen 😵

Yeah a few years ago now, it was popular among Steampunkers to merge clicky model-m's with typewriter keys. Destroying both in the process.
Of course the other thing this did was raise the prices. Broken typewriters started fetching a premium due to the retro/steampunky look of the keys.

It was also popular to paint Amiga 600 cases black and (rather than paint the keys) take the keys off Amiga CDTV keyboards. As a result the few CDTV's I saw for sale rarely had keyboards, and the individual CDTV keyboards started commanding even more of a price then they already were. Probably mainly for the 'A' Amiga key people wanted in black o.0

Seems as I indeed have been living under a rock. Hmmm... The name is new, what it covers are norhing new. Guess I was only living under gravel.

That said. I think it will go away, once old kaybpards are too rare, because they are still producing switches. Personally I dont care, because I have always hated that click and that slap it gives as a feedback. After writing a couple of pages, I get pain in my fingertips. I much more prefer a membrane combined with real springs. Clicking switches are not my thing. Though membrane and rubbetdomes are way worse. Nope.... Give me springs, like those on Mitsumi Amiga500 keyboards, or Commodore64 keyboards. Those have a soft and responsive feel.

Once the plastic are as orange, as urine from a person that has not been drinking for three days. Then it is better just to paint the case.

I got an ISA card for 2 EUR, but don't know what's it for. Also the ISA connectors on the back side of the card are in a bad shape, so this card working again is questionable 😖

I bought this one today (sellers photo):

Paid lot of money. It was sold as an EGA card, but in fact its the NEC MVA 1024. Therefore - accoroding to many sources - its PGC. Dont know much about these cards and if its EGA compatible at all. But it seems to have a BIOS and should be bootable.

Reason I bought it: Still have my 1st 1988 EGA Monitor which also has an analog PGC input. In the beginning of the 90s, as I was not able to run VGA games on my EGA equipment and I always asked myself if its possible to run VGA on this connector. In fact, many years later I found out that it is indeed possible with some ATI VGA cards (dont remember the reason)

But with the MVA card I will be able to test the PGC input for the 1st time 😀 But I will check carefully if everything is compatible first to not damage my valuable monitor...

Once arrived I will open a new thread and report. It will come with manual and driver disks and I will provide it.

The Dell QuietKey RT7D5JTW keyboard arrived and indeed it looks brand spankin' new.

NMB rubber dome over sliders but it is one of the best rubber domes out there. I've had one before but never in this condition.

I used a similar-looking Dell Quietkey in my office for a bit. It was obnoxiously loud. The keys felt really loose & rattly. Was there something wrong with mine?

I replaced it with an O.G. Microsoft Natural, and then later a Kinesis Advantage with Cherry MX switches, both of which were quieter than the Dell ever was.

Actually you should compain, unless it's really dirt cheap. DDR400 2-2-2-5 > DDR500 3-4-4-8. These sticks are based on cheap Samsung TCCC memory and they won't boot with 2-2-2-5 timings, even if you try to lower the speed down to 400mhz.

That's common problem with Samsung memory on DFI boards. Tweak Read Preambl and Async Latency timings.
Although they just might be faulty. More reason for a refund.

Spoke with the seller to see if he can replace them for me with the 400 2225 from the pics, he said he doesnt have them anymore, and the ones he sent me were the last he had, but then turned out he has 3 sticks of 1gb, asked for an actual pic of them and he sent me this

I see the 2 that are the same are still faster than 400, but, are they better than these 500 3448 I got, or should I keep these?

Mine's not that quiet as the name suggests but the keys are definitely not wobbly. They feel great actually.

Thanks for the offer! I could definitely use some close ups of the back of the board. If you could take some pics of the back that are clear enough to read the values on resistors and such, I'd appreciate it. Two to four high res shots would probably be sufficient.

By the way, you had some nice finds there as well! I really like the high end TNT2 and Geforce 256 cards. Reminds me of going to Electronics Boutique back in 1999-2000 and seeing them on the shelf with huge price tags on them when I was still rocking an integrated Velocity 128 or Voodoo 3 2000. 😀

Nice keyboard! How does that compare to an SK-8000 model QuietKey? I have one of those that I picked up a while back in excellent condition. There were several keys that didn't work and it turned out to be some residue from a long-past coffee spill. It had caused all sorts of problems... I can't even remember them now. But I fixed it, and that keyboard is now the one I use on my test bench. It feels nice without being super loud. I have a Corsair K70 with Cherry MX Reds on my main PC and I definitely prefer that over other keyboards, but the Dell is definitely not bad... especially for a rubber dome.

Infinitely better... doesn't feel mushy.

Found boxed visual basic 5.0 (not that I have any idea how to use it) and this cool handheld usb trigger mouse.
