Was there ever such a thing as a wireless PS/2 mouse that had a small integrated dongle receiver instead of a bulky block that was intended to be set on a desktop tower?

I see a lot of those "wireless" PS/2 mice on eBay, that are only really useful with a desktop configuration, not a laptop. It'd be nice to have a little mini receiver that plugs into the PS/2 port, takes power from it, and receives the signal from the mouse, the same as a modern USB mouse receiver.

The reason I ask is because with my old laptops, I tend to use PS/2 mice if I can, because they generally only have one USB 1.1 port and I want to keep that open for data transfers and other things.

No, I don't want to use a USB hub. I also need legacy compatibility for DOS.

Check your BIOS to see if there is a legacy USB option. I believe you can use the Cutemouse driver for USB mice as long as Legacy USB support is enabled. There are probably still caveats, but it's worth a try. If it works, then all you really need is a hub.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.
