So here I am, struggling for days to get my "Master Collection" cd copy of Menzoberranzan working on my rig. 733mhz P3 running XP Pro, I understand that the odds of getting it working would be infintesimal, so I first tried using compatability mode for the short cut...no good, the game hangs while trying to load. Then, I looked around for some sort of emulator and downloaded Dosbox. Great! The game loads fine, sound and everything! Just one problem, when trying to move or attack or enter the menu while in game (not the character generation part, but the actual game), everything runs at a snail's pace. I've seen tons of faqs reporting the game running too fast, but never too slow. What's going on?

I've also tried using VDMSound, but that hangs while trying to load just like using compatability mode. I really don't think it's the sound causing the problem, but I could be wrong.

your pc is too slow to run the game is a full pc emulator.

you could try the dynamic core. (open dosbox.conf search for core=normal change it to core=dynamic save file) start dosbox.

Thanks. Changing the core didn't seem to have any affect, though increasing the Cycles did increase the speed. I don't know if I want to run it that way though.

Hmm. Last time I played and finished Menzoberranzan (a few months ago) it ran quite well both in DOSBox and VDMSound. Looking at your setup specs. I recommend you run it using VDMSound.

Also, if you are feeling on the tech side, you could replace the DOS4GW used in the executables with DOS32A. Search the forum for that, before asking anything about it.
