Hello,
I have a Tandy 1000 TL/2 that I am attempting to get to play nice with an 8-bit Trantor T128 SCSI adapter and hard drive. When I boot the PC, I get the little blurb about the Trantor, followed by waiting for drive. Eventually, it'll indicate "Missing Operating System" and that's that. If I have a bootable 3.5" disk in the drive, it'll proceed to boot from it, and I'll be able to see the HDD and poke around at it but for the life of me, I cannot get it to boot from that HDD. I've attempted an 'sys c:' on it, and it copies files over, but still won't boot. My next attempt will be to fdisk it and completely nuke it and start over. The only reason I've not really gone this route yet is because there are a couple games and utils on it from the previous seller who copied them on before he sent it off. It's not the end of the world if I don't have them, but still, it'd be nice. ๐
Further compounding issues is that the 720K floppy drive is on its way out. I believe it's the pin switches that let it know the disk is inserted as it won't even spin the disk unless I insert and eject it a few times, then lightly press on that corner of the disk to press the switches down more. Could also try a little spritz of contact cleaner in/around the switch and hope it gets drawn in to clean things up a bit I suppose. But yeah, so I end up having to juggle this floppy drive just to get things to boot, and even then it's a 50/50 whether it'll boot. And if the Trantor gives a Missing Operating System error, it's Ctrl-Alt-Del to try all over again.
(Of course, all of this is an issue because the Tandy 1000 TL/2 uses XT IDE which is super limited in terms of what drives I can go with. And the TL/2 is clunky in general just because there is no way to just disable the onboard HDD controller (or the FDD controller so I could install an HD FDD controller and use any multitude of floppy drives))
So frustrating, but hoping someone might have some advice. I'm really hoping that the fdisk will fix things up.
