Hi folks ! as some of you may know, CITIZEN W1D laptop fdds are failing due to the rubber belt in them and finding the proper belt and replacing it is very hard ...
My computer is a Compaq LTE Elite 4/40CX
Today I disassembled a newer compaq (K6-2 era) that uses a different FDD, because the computer was dead (I'm salvaging parts). But I noticed they seem to use the same connector, so I tried the newer FDD ... and it worked !!!
Unfortunately everything's not perfect, just look at this :
yeah the drive doesn't really fit in the shell (I could cut the plastic tabs preventing it from getting down though) and the connector isn't is the same spot and is flipped, making it inconvenient to install properly (unless I find a bigger cable that I can flip)
But I hope this discovery could lead to better solutions than buying tons of belts and praying that it'll work
