The very first G4 generation also was the last one to be able to run MacOS 9.22.
For the reasons explained by doaks, there is no point in keeping any newer mac than this very first G4, if your goal is to play games that weren't available in the PC world.

I have a chance to get a Power Mac G4 in good optical and technical condition for around 20 USD incl. the system installation discs. I have never owned a Mac, is that considered to be a good price? Are these systems worth it? I just realized, they are all over the place on classified ads and eBay and can't really figure out if these systems are good or not. Are they fun to fiddle around with? Do they work out of the box with USB keyboard/mice? Do they require a VGA adapter like these super old Macintoshs? So much questions, so little Mac knowledge... 😵

Did you play mac games in the mid 90s? If not then no, as every popular, normal commercial game on the mac in the late 90s onwards was also on PC.

Loads of shareware games that were only available on the Mac, including some that were included in Apple's official pre-installed software.

But well, PowerMac G4s (and G5s) are the last PowerPC Macs, and are the only factory Macs that can run both 68k code and PowerPC code from within OS X (if it's installed), because PowerPC Mac OS X includes Classic, which can run classic Mac programs.

They work out of the box with USB keyboards and mice, although you'll want to pick up an Apple(-compatible) keyboard for the best user experience. Skip Apple mice, they suck - also only a single button, while thrid-party USB mice with two buttons are supported right out of the box.

IIRC, no VGA adapter required. Some even included DVI ports before they became standard on PCs.

Thanks for the information. Will pick up the unit later. Curious to see which specs the system has. Seller provided some photos which indicate a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver according to apple-history.com, but the exact specs are unknown until pickup. Also I'm not really into gaming anymore, I just want to play around with its OS and see how the Mac user experience is to me as I totally missed it when I very early on decided to be a x86 PC guy...

I have a G4 quicksilver that I picked up for 10$ and also a mac mini that has a custom installer to run 9.22. My opinion now is that with both the G4 and the mac mini compatiability issues exist for running a lot of early games equally. I would say get the appropriate mac G4 mini and install 9.22 on it. It will be much faster take up less space and the only caveat is that you have to plug in the sound out plug to get audio (the internal speaker wont work).

Here is a link to the mac mini project:
http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=4365.0

I dual boot with true 9.22 and the last version of OSX that supported PPC macs, leopard? I wouldn't care if the G4 quicksilver died the mini does everything that does and faster.

OK, it's a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver (933 MHz, DVD, GF4 MX, 256 MB RAM upgraded to 768 MB, 60 GB HDD) in immaculate optical condition. It even has the protective stickers on the drive bays. A little dusty on the inside but that's to be expected. Works great with MacOS 9.2.2. Seller was so kind to provide the original set of system disks and the power chord. Definitely one of the best looking systems in my opinion. Not bad for 20 bucks.

Not an Apple fan, BUT a good deal regardless. You're right, that's in great shape.

Very happy day today as I've finally completed my humble collection of my favorite boxed Intel CPUs by adding these two mint new-in-box Pentium III Xeon's 900/2M/2.8V (SL5D3):

It’s only worth € 20 for a reason in this case 😊

The good thing is that everyone has their own interests. It would become very boring and costly if everyone would collect e.g. 3dfx Voodoo 5 cards.

Bought an Commodore64 Breadbin model from the netherlands on eBay, and one hour later the seller cancelled my order.
The seller said that he just sold it to someone else. DUDE WHAT GIVES!!! 😢 😢

Some sellers are jerks. The item I won on eBay said in the listing was supposed to be shipped via USPS, however, it's FedEx, which I loathe entirely. Hope my item gets sent from FedEx to USPS since I lost good hardware years ago from neglect by FedEx and UPS (organizing was bad).

Thing was a freakin' piece of art. It's too bad so many of the hot ones were water-cooled and leaked, it can be hard to find a dual 2.7GHz or quad 2.5GHz.

I have a Dual 2.7 but it completely ate itself (before I got it) because of the water cooling. Kind of have a small hope cheap replacements will fall into my lap but not yet.

That's weird, I loathe USPS since they can't deliver a package without running it over with the truck first and shipping it through 7 unnecessary states. 😵

Anyhow, here's my latest purchase.. Asus GeForce 4 Ti 4600 V8460ULTRA. Seller photo, looks like it has had the cooler replaced with an OEM GeForce4 cooler -- which I'll swap out for a Thermaltake G4-VGA cooler and RAM heatsinks. My last GeForce4 Ti 4600 I bought was DoA, so hopefully this one works. I got it for under $40 w/ 8% Ebay Bucks and it claims it is tested/working from a 30-day money back return policy.

You do know what "Alloy" means?
It is not a specific material, it is the specific combination of material's. (It can be bronze, brazz or solder)

EDIT:
My guess is that you have been thinking of aluminium, and not alloy.

What I do not understand, is why on earth relist it, when it was already picked up by a local buyer?
It is like sellers on Amibay, neglecting to flag their sales add, as sold. Freaking frustrating.
And yes. I do know that you have to write a moderator to change it, yet +6 months after sale?

Naaa... Can't be a bad moderator, or can it be? Sure it is never the seller.

One thing that gets me upset or PO'd is the item says ships via USPS and the seller ships it via FedEx or another company.
