One of my machines I think needs a new CPU, and I do not need it to be very fast, just work. So I was looking for a Core i5 say 2nd or 3rd generation. That is Core I5 2xxx or 3xxx. I mean I am talking 8 year old processor. To my surprise the prices for those are through the roof (at least according to my expectations). I tried eBay, Amazon and Newegg. They go for around $120. I mean we are talking about _not vintage_ but still 8 year old processors. I mean I can get last year's Intel processors for about $250.
Surely a product that is a lot inferior in performance would cost less than half. Turns out not so. So who is buying those old CPUs to keep the prices so high? For comparison, I was expecting to pay $20-$30.
If I buy an old Dell machine that has an old Core i5 (I mean this was and is the cheap of the cheap Dell boxes), a FULL computer would cost me around 200. but the CPU is 120?!
With these prices for normal computer products, we have no right to complain that vintage computers are so freaking expensive!
