Any good Windows 3.1 games?

Getting old software/games running on older hardware.

Deadlock:Planetary Conquest was not bad as 4x TBSes of time went - somehow Civ2 didn't took off for me (only Civ1) but this thing did. IIRC req. WinG but not Win32s.

I got Deadlock as a game in one of those "30 in 1" packs halfway the 90's. I bought every issue of PC Gamer (UK) but that one I never got (got lost in the mail) so I had no idea if it was any good so when I tried it, I had no preconceptions and fell completely in love with it. Its clean interface combined with wide tactics made it very addictive.

No-one seems to have mentioned Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time and Quest for the Holy Grail, both which are 16 bit Windows based. They probably run fine in later versions, and are definitely ok in OS/2's WinOS/2, but they don't play well with WINE.

I have Complete Waste of Time - I wouldn't quite call it a game but it's amusing for a while.

I ran knights chase under Windows 3.1 on a 486, always thought it was a fun concept

I had to test this so I checked my timegate cd... there is indeed a WINSTALL.EXE on it, it installs the game and creates icons in program manager but the game is a DOS one, it does not run in a window like the shots... maybe it does that with win95 - I tested on 3.11

Alone in the Dark 3 had a Winstall as well - I think it's basically just a way to install it through Windows and getting a shortcut to the DOS version. It's not a real Windows game. I always steered clear of that way of playing a game since Windows 3.1 only makes things more difficult.

Some of these Mystery/Cyber Punk genre type games (Noir, Myst, Robot City, Daedalus Encounter, etc.) were on Win 3.1, too.
- If you're looking closely, Windows 3.1 had much more than Skifree and Chip's Challenge. ;)

Is this even allowed on this forum? Because VOGONS doesn't support abandonware. But I could be wrong, because at least you guys are not asking for any downloads in this thread.

Anyway, after a quick Google search, I found quite a few games for Windows 3.1x that most likely haven't been mentioned here...
Microsoft Golf 1.0 / 2.0
Microsoft Arcade 1.0
Chessmaster 3000
DOOM 1.x (?)

End of list

^Hi, Win 3.x games often were shareware/freeware, while others may have been commcercial but sometimes got re-released as freeware by the game studios afterwards.
Mobygames, on the other hand is merely a game database with lots of backround information and links to the games homepage's etc. :)

Edit: Dare to Dream is also worth playing. Part #1 also existed as shareware, I believe.
