Do we have a thread for firmware dumps and if not, are people interested in having one? It can be for general interest or to help people who for whatever reason need the firmware.

I just used my MiniPro TL866A to dump the firmware for my (almost) deceased Conner CP2124 120MB HDD. The chip was an Atmel AT25C512R.
Edit: attachment removed as below. I don’t want to upset anyone.

Is there somewhere to upload these things or shall we post them here?

Proceed with caution. Same goes for VOGONSDrivers.

You won't find any firmware dumps from Roland devices here (or there).

You won't find any firmware dumps from Nintendo games or arcade games here (or there).

One repair enthusiast's "firmware" is another emulator freak's "ROMz" and it's very difficult to draw a dividing line.

At the bottom of every VOGONS page:

This site hosts no abandonware. There is no material that is knowingly illegal here. vogons.org will not be held responsible for users' posts.

...with the intended definition of "abandonware" and "knowingly illegal" targeted towards pirated software.

So use your best judgement.

This has been discussed by VOGONS moderators and admins already. The odd firmware dump is, for now, "okay". Splitting hairs, I know. But we would not appreciate a flood of dumps. Better to go elsewhere for hosting large quantities. VOGONSDrivers admin (SquallStrife) may or may not agree.

How do you know if that's the firmware of your HDD?

Well, I mean that some devices store some critical data in their EPROMs (along the firmware), so loading that content directly on other device may render it unusable. In some disks, you can't exchange the board to repair them for the same reason.

Fair enough stiletto. I’m firmly in the camp of wanting to archive anything I have that will help others when original downloads aren’t available any more and am struggling to get stuff myself for legitimate use, however I fully appreciate what you’re saying about the site’s position as you have mentioned and have no wish to rock the boat.

True. I assumed. At 64k it was big enough to be a firmware, there are no other obvious memory chips and the disk identifies to the computer even when the disk itself won’t read.
