I have a first-model MT-32 (no headphone jack). It chokes on certain SysEx commands created for later-model units which are spaced too closely-together. Is it possible to upgrade the ROMs to the 2.x ROMs from the later board to fix this? I'm not sure if the later ROMs are dependent on the later hardware; maybe the relaxation of the 40ms spacing between commands requires more RAM or other hardware differences?

AFAICT, the "old" and the "new" MT-32 versions differ significantly in the addresses used for hardware ports (e.g. the LA32 ports), so the control ROM version can only be upgraded along with the main board (as per the MT-32 Service Notes too).
