another alternative / backup (manufactured in 1999)
Asus V6600 Pure 32M AGP NVIDIA GeForce 256

The attachment 20190519_175114.jpg is no longer available

and i am thinking about... i should switch this bx config to the last native "bx/slot1 cpu" to the 600mhz katmai (paired with a tnt2 ultra). after that they released the 820/840, and the bx was not the top intel chipset anymore. something like that:

Abit BX6 v2.02 Intel 440BX
Intel Pentium III 600 (Katmai) SL3JM
Toshiba PC100 SDRAM 8ns 64M x2
Creative 3D Blaster CT6810 32M AGP NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Ultra

i did some research, which is the "last" period correct not overclocked (100mhz fsb) coppermine for the bx. from these two anand article looks...

https://www.anandtech.com/show/500/2

Another interesting thing to note here is that the 1GHz product will be available only in a 133MHz FSB version, so no 100MHz x 10.0 configurations on your old BX setup; you’re slowly being forced to get rid of that BX board.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/594/2

The 1.13GHz part is another big sign from Intel that we’re not going to be seeing any more 100MHz FSB Pentium IIIs, leaving the fastest 100MHz FSB Pentium III at 850MHz.

so... the result is:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/Intel-Pentium%20III%20850%20-%2080526PY850256%20-%20KC80526PY850256%20(BX80526U850256).html

the 850/100mhz p3, which is released a couple of week later than the ghz version.

So what about
- Pentium III 900 (2000.03 / So370 only)
- Pentium III 1000 (2000.03 / Slot1 + So370) and
- Pentium III 1100 (2000.06 / So370 only)
?

My BX So370 setup is running an ASUS CUBX that was announced in 2000.03 and launched in 2000.05, so If I were to build a strictly period correct BX system I would probably go with the 900 MHz option (which is still affordable compared to the rare 1000 and 1100 MHz models).

Having said that, my system might need a little overhaul as well... still running the stock PIII-650 CPU which was only midrange back then, sound card, graphics, optical and hard disk drives don't fit too well either... but the case, board, cpu and power supply are still original and in nice condition, so it might be worth investing a few euros now, as long as parts are still somewhat available.

all 850+ /100mhz cpus released in 2001 (please read the previous comments). i want a period correct pc from 99, early 2000.
from 2001 i would build something else (athlon 1400 eg).

OK, I pulled the above dates from the German Wikipedia but obviously they are not correct.
Still, I managed to find some hints from late 2000 that the PIII-900/100 was shipped to OEMs by november without appearing in Intel's offical price lists:

An article about a PC equipped with the 900/100 by German manufacturer Medion/Lifetec from 11/2000:
https://www.tecchannel.de/a/test-aldi-pc,401570,2

Some guy at the Anandtech forums who wants to overclock his PIII-900 engineering sample (QS69ES) also in 11/2000:
https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/how-much … iii-900.399350/

But I don't want to stress that topic too much in this thread, so sorry about that. Maybe we should open a new one to shed some light on the history of the Pentium III and its many models 😀
Just let me say that I really like your build - now I have to go shopping for some period-correct components for my own BX system 😉
Cheers!

I would be happy if you find more information. 😀

my goal to build a bx, when the bx was still a good chipset, not a budget solution. Be honest the p3 1000 was an 1000 dollar cpu, nobody put to a bx, when it released (second reason, it is fsb overclocked). The last real bx, dedicated slot1, top level cpu was the 600mhz katmai. The p3 700 is a good compromise - the 820 was late, it released around the 800mhz version (very late dec 99, jan 00).

Just a tip... check the cpu sl code, then search for images. If it is a last stepping cumine, there is a big chance the copyright date is also 01 and not 00. I checked just the 1000+/100 versions, the slot1 was the only with 00, any another cpus with 01. But it did not release with the 133 version - this information based on the early ghz pentium reviews - the 850mhz version came weeks later.

i did some research... it looks to me, they delayed them because of marketing reasons, too small gap compared to the faster celerons.

the 900 and slot1 1000/100 version released around nov 2000 (they have 00 copyright year).
the faster fsb100 versions released with the 100mhz celerons in 2001, but the p3 does not have prio anymore (and there was the tualatin).

the last "logical" choice the bx with a top cpu, was the 600-700mhz p3.

1999.07 - pentium iii 600 (katmai) + tnt2 ultra
1999.10 - pentium iii 700 + gf256 sdr
