I'm trying to install Windows 95 OSR 2 onto a 32gb drive. I keep getting an error that I can't find any info on. Hoping some one here can help.

Additional info: windows 95 was installed on this computer/drive previously on a 8gb partition.

Error message:

Unrecoverable setup error
Setup can not continue on this system configuration. Click ok To quit setup. Then refer to Section 'control data corrupt' In setup.txt for instructions.

Setup.txt has no such section and nothing even close to explaining this error.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Davros asks good questions,
I would also try a smaller c:\ partition, a lot of earlier windows didn't like large boot partitions, not sure if Win95 had a limit but wouldn't surprise me.

If you get a message saying "Setup cannot continue on this system
configuration," you may have an older, incompatible disk partition.
Before running Setup, you will need to back up your data and then
repartition your disk.

Absolutely, Windows 95B and 95C always fail to load the default IDE CD-ROM driver in the second phase of Setup for whatever reason. A good place to copy all the files from the CD's WIN95 directory would be in C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS. In theory, you should then be able to run Setup from that directory so it's registered as the default SourcePath entry and you don't have to keep pointing to it every time you want to install new Windows components.

I haven't been very accustomed to this solution lately, largely because I nowadays install any version of Windows from a network server, and Windows 95 doesn't have that same problem when installing from a network share or SCSI CD-ROM.

Wouldn't just copying the WIN95 folder to the root of C:\ drive be simpler to do ? Just point setup to C:\WIN95 whenever it has a issue with not finding the CD ROM.

I know it's a thread from half a year ago, but I just had the same problem, found the solution and wanted to share it in case someone else will find it useful.

Before starting the install I have created the MSBATCH.INF file.
I've removed the file and errors stopped.
