Nice! My first and second laptops were VAIOs. Not the most durable machines ever, but they were small, light, and were a joy to use. If they had been around a few years back, I may not have switched to a MBP.

It's not "Sony Vaio" anymore, just "Vaio". Sony sold the brand some time ago, I don't know who's behind it now.

Not bad computers but they had some of the more uncomfortable BIOSes I have ever seen. I am looking at you Invoking boot device list (F11 or ASSIST+PowerOn).

Good product but overpriced and trying to lock you into Sony devices like no SD card reader just Sony equivalent and the i.link connector which was basically just a firewire connector.
In fact remind you of a certan company named after a bit of fruit 😉

Yeah, and like that fruit company, people often criticize them for using "proprietary" connectors that are actually industry standard. 😉 That i.Link connector is not "basically" FireWire, it IS FireWire. It's just the small form factor plug, like micro HDMI. Also like the Fruit company, Sony was always trying to make things smaller. (Part of what I like about my ex VAIOs and my current MBP -- they're very portable.)

Now the Memory Stick thing ... yeah that was a debacle. My second VAIO laptop did have a bog-standard SD card reader though.

The i.Link port is just a S400 IEEE1394 port. But of course Sony had to have a special name for it. 😜 4-pin, for data transfer but no 12V (up to 30V) power.
