I have Windows XP and am attempting to play Master of Magic in DOXbox 0.63. The game already installed and was playing beautifully. I used cntrl F9 and exited on accident. Now when I go back to play the game, I have to mount the drive, and then I go to d:/game and type in magic like it tells me to, and then it tells me to "run install to configure master of magic." So I do, then I use the basic configure settings which seem to only deal with sound, which I had when it first worked, then it tells me "failed to open config file for write operation." and it won't let me play with out configuring but it won't configure. I've read the read me and tried to find some related links on this site. Please help. 😢 [/list]

I'm really new, so I'm not sure quite how. I know that when I go to install screen I can only configure the settings, read me, or exit. When I go to configure all of the configure settings are for sound issues. It asks me to check which box I want for the sound to use, like soundblaster, etc. So I do that, and I've also tried no sound, n/a, and other combinations. After I get through the two choices, it says the "failed to open config file for write operation." It's just so strange because it was working perfectly, and now will not play.

That is strange that it used to work. To check if the files are read-only, use windows explorer, and right click on the master of magic folder. Select properties, and make sure the read-only tickbox is clear. If not, clear it, and click OK, and then OK again.

Come to think of it, I remember MOM doing the same thing to me a couple of times. If it crashes, or is closed without exiting, I think it messes up its configuration file sometimes. Hell of a buggy game. I hope you have the latest patched version of MOM btw. (at least they fixed half the bugs in the patch) 😀
