Got this little beast today. Quite heavy too. Which system would this case be the most suitable for? Socket 7, Pentium 2 or Pentium 3? Currently the system has AMD Athlon 2Ghz, with 512Mb RAM and 12GB HDD, but will remove the current build, because I don't like it. I want to use this PC with DOS and maybe Win95.

Received some more cards from the "screwdriver-man". Lucky that not all cards had a fan.

And then this: Think I dont need to comment. The left cooler was removed with a screwdriver, the 3dfx-IC is damaged. Nothing to restore here. Will look through the box if I find the missing part of the Adlib... 😵

Did you give screwdriver guy a heads-up that his screwdriver-happy work here cost him several hundred EUR...? So next time he might not be so quick to destroy stuff 😢

I placed a VooDoo3 2000 PCI card in a freezer bag and placed it in the freezer to remove the heatsink cautiously and it worked. But, the card had artifacts and wasn't salvageable, sadly. I have a VooDoo3 3000 that has a heatsink fan from a parted AM2+ system and it works. So far, no overheating issues.

I got this, together with some other stuff I will post when I clean it up. The 2 PC's I posted in the retro activity thread are from the same lot.
Case has been cleaned yesterday. The front is heavily yellowed but it has a LED display 😀
It seems it was stored in a damp/wet place because there is rust everywhere on the outside and the bottom. Inside was emmm dusty. It has to be the dirtiest case I had so far.
This one is going to house my DX2-66. Don't know if I am going to rework the case paint. Maybe put something on to stop the rusting process.
If the motherboard is OK, it goes in the reserve stash. Enough socket 7 systems already.

Btw, the PC on the bottom is also from the same lot and it's a Compaq Deskpro P3. This one is also on the do to list.

My retro collection: too much...

That enclosure looks 1997/1998ish so a PII, PMMX or AMD K6 would be period correct.

Yes, I send him today the picture of the Adlib and the V5500 and told him that these are the rarest cards under the ones he sent me, with a value of 500€ each in good condition. He answered that he already destroyed a fortune and will contact me next time he gets stuff...

Think the Adlib is at least repairable, but I will not try.

Picked up some 'new' stuff for first time in a while today.

First some cards:
full.jpg
Expertcolor 3805A (S3 805 VLB, 1MB with what looks like option for a second MB)
Expertmedia 3240/41 (OPTi 924 + 941 Wavetable)
SMC 8416BT (SMC 83C795 10Mb Ethernet - supposedly the fastest ISA 10Mb NIC)

And then two weird old mechanical keyboards:
full.jpg
Absolutely no lettering or other indication what this is, inside or out. Chips indicate ~1983 age.

Has some nice switches, that feel a bit like a rough Cherry MX Black, but with longer travel. Also nice SA-profile dualshot ABS keycaps:
full.jpg
(and yes, that's a Z80A on the right being used as a keyboard controller...)

The odd thing is the combination of clearly expensive switches + controller and a pretty full layout with cheap, anonymous ABS casing.

The second board has a higher build quality, but is just as anonymous:
full.jpg
Azerty layout suggests France, but no sign of anything like it on ordinosaures.fr . The keycaps are heavy ABS, dye-sublimated apart from the number row, which is etched/lathed.

*Very* smooth, light linear switches of a design I haven't seen before:
full.jpg

This board has a legend on the PCB: KB506/01 (no hits) and 1983 chip codes. It also has a function key explanation strip (in French) for Micropro Calcstar and Wordstar, which strongly suggests a CP/M system. The strip also bears the name "SODIEPIE", which doesn't throw up anything computer-related when I google it.

Anyone recognize these keyboards? I'd love to make my own keyboard controller to hook them up to a modern system (particularly the second one is nice enough to use as a daily drive), but to stand a chance I'd need to know the pinout of the connectors (14-pin Centronics for the first one, 19-pin DIN for the second). Failing that, they are in excellent condition (if a bit dirty, something i intend to rectify). I might be able to make someone with the relevant old systems pretty happy 😉

My new monitor arrived. New in box Hyundai Imagequest 19" V995 😀 Made in 2006. It is actually quite nice monitor. It was slightly out of focus out of the box, but after adjusting, it is really sharp. It goes up to 1600x1200/75Hz, but to my eye 1152x864/100Hz looked most pleasant on Windows 95 desktop.

Thanks! Those speakers came with my IBM Aptiva in 1996, and for bundled speakers they sound very good. They even weigh about 1,3kg a piece. Totally different level of quality than those nasty little plastic boxes that typically came with computers back then. I even have the subwoofer (bought afterwards) for the set, but unfortunately, due to desk space constraints, it is not currently in use.
