Hello!
I'm in progress benchmarking RAID 0 on Windows 98
Platform:
Motherboard: ASUS P2B-D
Memory: 640MB Ram - 2x256 + 128
Graphics: ELSA ERAZOR II - Riva TNT
Hard Disc options:
#1: option "single IDE HDD" - controller (mainboard) - WD 160GB 7200
#2: option "RAID 0 IDE HDD" - controller (manhattan RAID ATA 133) - 2x MAXTOR 40GB 7200rpm - (no drivers!)
#3: option "RAID 0 IDE HDD" - controller (manhattan RAID ATA 133) - 2x MAXTOR 40GB 7200rpm - (with dedicated driver)
Results
As you see, It's important to install drivers for your controller.
Results are not really shocking.
RAID 0 option slightly descrase small files read speed but improving speeds of bigger files.
Single option can be the optimum if you don't like the exotic way of doing things like I do.
It is worth using an external controller on the PCI (~140mb/s) because it will always be faster than the controller on the motherboard (33/66mb/s)
for computers of the type Pentium, Pentium II and Pentium III.
If you have any opinion about the test, please feel free to discuss. 😀
I will be grateful for any advices or any info about my mistakes in the process.
Thanks!
