I have an Packard Bell Executive Multi-Media PC,which has a socket 7 motherboard housing an Intel Pentium 133MHz CPU.

I recently purchased an NVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 M64 PCI card, as I wanted to enjoy some early 3D accelerated games on the machine (e.g. Incoming, Quake). Unfortunately I long since got rid of my original RIVA TNT.

The machine has two ISA slots and a single PCI slot.

The attachment Packard Bell slots.jpg is no longer available

Having after powering up the machine I only get a garbled video put

The attachment RIVA TNT 2 M64 on Packard Bell.jpg is no longer available

I have tried the video card in a newer machine (Windows XP era) and it works fine. So it appears to be something about this particular machine.

I've not come across something like this before so unsure what the reason could be?

Strange. Ever tried another PCI graphics card in that machine?

No, unfortunately I don't have any other PCI video cards.

I purchased a PCI video card specially for this machine

Seeing how dusty the machine is in the first picture, I recommend giving it a very good clean. It may not make good contact in the PCI slot because of the dust in there.

I've given the PCI slot a good clean out

Unfortunately I'm still getting the same result 😒

I've had a look in the BIOS to see if there's a setting that would make a difference

I've tried enabling the PCI Burst mode, however that's made no odds either.

The next troubleshooting step would be to get another older PCI graphics card and test it in the system to see wether the system does not like PCI graphics cards at all or if it just doesn't like the M64.
Or maybe a different PCI card like an IDE controller to find out wether the bus works at all.
