Hi long time lurker (many years) but have never posted, hoping someone may be able to poin me in the right direction with some issues I am having with Carmageddon 2.

I cannot for the life of me get the game to run in glide mode, it displays the 3dfx logo, displays the fmv intro then exits to the desktop. It runs fine in software rendering.

The machine is a FIC PA 2013 Rev 2.1
K6-3 400
Voodoo 3 - 2000 AGP
128 MB Ram.

BIOS
Video BIOS Cache: Disabled
AGP Aperture Size: 64

Voodoo drivers - 3dfx_Voodoo3_1.07.00_Win9x
Chipset drivers - 4in1435v

Did the following:

1. Formatted and Re-installed Win98 SE
2. Installed Chipset, Audio, Video, DX7 drivers in that order.
3. Installed Carmageddon 2
4. Re-Installed video drivers just in case.
5. Patched to V2.0.
6. Installed no CD patch.

The carmageddon disc is a "sold out software value release".

Any help would be much appreciated as I really want to play it again after all these years.

Thanks

For reference for anyone finding this in the future, I managed to get an Original release copy of the game, worked first time.
There is something incompatible with the sold out software value release so may want to try a different version if you are seeing the same thing.

This collection also has a "broken" Carmageddon 2. I tried old drivers from the 90's, I tried new improved drivers and it always crashed to desktop in the beginning (AMD K6-2 Voodoo 2).

Ah not just me then.

The standard cd version has been working perfectly so if your still trying to play it would pick a copy of it up.

I'm interested to know if the OP's issue was with the Sold Out version of the game, or was the issue specific to the Voodoo3? Were you able to try the Sold Out version with another generation of Voodoo card?

I'm experiencing similar issues with the retail version of the game, but only with a Voodoo3, using the original CD drivers v1.01 on Win98SE using DirectX 6.1a. On the same system and installation, I was able to run the 3dfx version of the game with a Voodoo2 SLI and a Voodoo Banshee, using early Creative web drivers (not 3dfx's reference drivers).
I have also tried the later Voodoo3 driver CD with version 1.3 drivers and had the same issue. I didn't have any problem with the Voodoo2s or Banshee.

Now that gog sales are ongoing, just a quick question.
Is gog version easily installable on real hardware?
I think I have a machine with voodoo 3 and win98 already configured on it.
