1730405149 is above barcode

In my experience the SB boxes do have the part number on it, but it’s not obvious. My CT2290 (Value model) box has 2290 on it somewhere (no ‘CT’) - can you provide pics of the sides?

The model number is usually imprinted on the top (SBxxxx = CTxxxx). The very early boxes (yellow, light blue) are missing the imprint as far as I know.

There were many different Soundblaster 16 versions. This post indicates, that your SB16 Basic Edition is a CT1730.

The photo on the box looks very much like a CT1740 or CT2740. There aren't many SB16's with the volume wheel, right?

Could be a CT1600, it had volume wheel and IDE cdrom interface, was called Sound Blaster 16 Pro 2. Here is a pic of a CT1350 and CT1600 both had volume but only the 1600 had the cdrom interface.

Nope. The CT1600 is a Sound Blaster Pro 2, the interface is not IDE and its box was labelled just "Sound Blaster Pro". You may be confusing it with the CT2910, that is sometimes known as "Sound Blaster 16 Pro" (no "Sound Blaster 16 Pro 2" existed as far as I know).

The card from the OP box is likely a CT1730/CT1740/CT2740 as others have mentioned, an early SB16 model.

More photos and the original price tag, the box is from Canada.

The number 1730 is written all over the box in the serial number.

My money is on CT1730.

I know I'm reviving an old post, but I found this site while searching for info about a lot of vintage hardware I picked up, including a Sound Blaster 16 box just like this. I just picked up a SB16 that is in the same box with all the same documentation, etc. Mine does have the card which has CT1740 printed on the card on the front, but the sticker on the back says CT1730. The number above my bar code on the box also starts with 1730. Just figured I would verify the contents for anyone that comes across this in the future.

They are essentially the same card except 1730 has a CT1741 DSP chip with an old DSP version and (relatively) bug free MPU-401 whereas the 1740 has a CT1738 DSP chip and usually a newer DSP version and a buggy MPU-401. Otherwise, near identical cards. Hence they were probably bundled in the same box and sold interchangably for a while.
