I'm not sure how useful this is to the few that need it (I know I did, reconditioning a Compaq Mendochino just now) but I guess I got lucky.

Someone should archive these! I would if I knew how...

Looks like Intel screwed up the link for the 1.01 ? source download and it goes to 1.6.. tried a bunch of different things but it just kept taking me to 1.6 Or maybe it is 0.1.6?

I've downloaded everything that Intel currently has and also getting stuff from the wayback machine. Who knew that there was Windows 3.x drivers available? 😲

3.1 hah, I guess that's not that much of a stretch back in 1998 or so.

What I don't understand is that they're even removing the ~40 or so Mb worth of drivers. I mean, 20 years ago I could understand, but what is 40Mb today? How much could Intel possibly be saving by removing it? I wonder if there's another reason - maybe the cumulative nonsupported drivers take up too much room overall?

It's kind of like a library that won't hold old books - doesn't seem to make sense, but there's only so much room available in the building I guess.

Nah, if I ever heard that BS coming from Intel, I would call it out in a heartbeat. Storage is ridiculously cheap. Seriously, what's a few TB of archived drivers and software? A consumer could afford the storage to maintain that. Non-automated downloads should be few and far between, so bandwidth costs can't be that big of an issue.

The only rationale I can come up with is, "we're tired of maintaining links to this stuff." IMO, a static "legacy.intel.com" would serve just fine. Give it an HTML 3.0 interface, and only touch it when new material is moved in to the "too old to matter anymore" bin. I don't care. If you moved the entire host onto a cloud provider, it would cost peanuts to keep online as a "best-effort" project.

There is no reasonable excuse for this, particularly from a company that has a track record of selling its legacy cores to industrial manufacturers for decades past when anyone thought it had market viability anymore.

Great, in that case, mods can close this thread if need be, glad to see the awareness exists and something is being done about it.
