Hi there, i get a diverse dunnos with DOSBox.
1 - Its possible to remap controls without enter to the mapper configuration "ctrl + f1" something like
config -set key a bind a
config -set key ins bind mouse y+
config -set key del bind mouse y-
or something like that ?
This is because i had test a few game demos like Tubular Worlds, Witchaven 1, Star Wars DarkForces and well i want to remap before enter the game, and reconfigure to the original bind after exit the game. i can write a batch script for that but i need to know
2 - Someone know if possible to skip the menu in the game "the dig" for start directly gameplay in msdos version ?
because i try too many ways for that but i just notice i need do things first like :
-> indica "No Scumm Environment Set"
For avoid error "Scumm Enviroment Not set" if i try to use
dig w,r,i,o,d,[Any integer number]
just indicate "imuse.ini not found"
i try set imuse with :
Syntax -> D:\DIG\IMUSE.EXE imusePath imuseName iniName
D:\DIG\IMUSE.EXE imusePath D:\DIG\ imuseName IMUSE iniName C:\DIG\IMUSE.INI
but don't work
3 - Why the official version don't add "Glide" support ?
For example i had use "Dosbox-x" and use "Tomb Raider" + "Voodoo Rush" patch because is the unique run fine (3DFX Patch is too slow on my pc) using the "glide2x.ovx" extracted from GTA for MSDOS
4 - Which is better Gravis Ultrasound or SoundBlaster, and why?
5 - Its possible use FreeDOS utilities for activate "Network Support" on official dosbox, and use it with windows 3.1?
i had multiple software from FreeDOS repository like : OpenCP, DOS Navigator 2, The DOSZip Commander, FoxCalc, FoxType, Power Paint, Search, DOSLFN, OpenGem (i don't like it becuase i can't run batch file), OzoneGUI, SEAL.
Whiptail, Dialog : I try to use this ports like in GNU/Linux but the behaivur its diferent i need a tutorial for dos version of this program i prefer dialog.
6 - Which is the best way to configure video inside the DOSBox. because i had installed and try to configure S3 drivers for Trio64 (764) for Msdos, and inside Windows 3.1 i use S3 Trio64 drivers (not 764, neither 864)
i found in -> http://files.mpoli.fi/hardware/DISPLAY/S3/
well i am searching to set internal resolution to 640x480 instead 320x200 or 320x240 and obtain the best performance.
i am using :
This tool show:
S3 Chip Identify Utility Version 7 […]
S3 Chip Identify Utility Version 7
cr2d=88 cr2e=11 cr2f=00 cr30=e1 cr36=9a cr6f=00
S3 Video Chip: Trio 64 (764)
Display Memory Size : 2M
Display Memory Type : 2-Cycle EDO DRAM
-> For activate VESA 2.0
VBE/Core 2.0 extensions : On
Linear frame buffer support : On
Low resolution video modes : On
S3Refresh to set refresh rate in various resolutions and this need write in autoexec.bat
Curiosity if i activate DOSLFN i can't start that ports game because show an error in relation with files like "gfx.wad" in qdos or "pics/conchars.pcx"
Using a tool called "
" (i found here -> http://www.filegate.net/utilnet/) i got this information :
# |Mode Type | Width Height Colors | Bpp Bank Bpl |
# |0101h gfx | 640 480 256 | 8 64 640 |
i try to use :
smode 0101h and well, looks like its in that resolution but the performance in general is slow.
Its possible to use "bios drivers" / "firmware" (drivers) of S3 to activate better video support and performance ?
Well that its all for now, thanks for any useful help can you share with me, meanwhile i am looking for useful software can be use inside dosbox, i will go to check this tool works fine inside dosbox -> http://www.sysanalyser.com/
