Asus P5A-B fan error

Been working on my new SS7 build this evening, ran into a small issue.

The BIOS HW monitor reports a CPU fan error. Oddly enough, the HW monitor still reads and reports the RPM. The reading is definitely correct, it's about the same as the identical chassis fan's ditto, and both readings updates with the same frequency.

Tried to swap fans, made no difference at all.

Using the latest BIOS, version 1011.005, downloaded directly from Asus' web site. No mods or anything.

Would be nice to get rid of the annoying "hardware monitor found an error..." message at POST. I don't want to turn off CPU fan monitoring either, afaik these old AMD CPUs don't support thermal throttling or shutdown.

Soo, any ideas? 😀

The fan speed is too low according the manual it’s looking for 3500+ rpm on the cpu header

Oh, it was that simple 😜 Well, it's gonna be a fun project either building a pulse frequency doubler, or trying to hack the bios.

Thanks 😀

I just got a standard fan and put a 3w 68ohm resistor on the power line on my P5A-B
That puts it at about 3600RPM for me, and makes it quiet enough to not sound like a jet engine.
