Going through some of my old stuff recently and I came across this heatsink.

I have no idea what socket this would fit on, the dimensions are 41mm x 43mm x 16mm. Each side of the clip has writing, one side says SCA 17-1 and the other says THM.

Any ideas?

Doing some googling and I think it might be for the Nexgen socket. That's the only one I can find with 2 mounting lugs on each side of the socket like this.

Looks like socket 7?

It's not wide enough and it has a different mounting lug pattern.

Here's some pics of it sitting on and beside a startech brand socket 7 heatsink for comparison.

I believe that's for a 68040 CPU, specifically in a Mac such as a Quadra 9x0 or 8x0. It clips onto the CPU die itself and is easily removed.

I think you're right!

Pulled this up on google images after searching for Quadra motherboards.

Yep, that's the one! The heatsinks were stock in such '040 systems and I've seen them bundled in some aftermarket '040 clock crystal overclocking kits too, usually with a 486 style fan on top.
