So guys, i got the chance to buy a cheap Matrox G450.
I know, this is weak than G400 but will be a step-up than a g200 and maybe a tnt1/m64?

If you currently have a G200 it could boost performance a bit, but where a G400 about equal a TNT2 (and the G400Max can beat a TNT2-Ultra in some benchmarks), a G450 is probably on par with TNT2-M64. Not awful, but by no means a compelling gaming card. Also, OpenGL drivers were a bit of a thing, but that was the case with the G200 too, so it doesn't get worse.

Main reasons to want a G450 are the very, very good analog image quality on both outputs (the G400 has slightly better quality on the primary, but less on the secondary), far in excess of the vast majority of same-period nVidia/ATi designs. It's not just the RAMDAC that allows high resolutions, but also the filters. If you wanted to run a really high-res desktop (say 1600x1200) in those days, you would notice the difference. I bought one to use with my Sony w900 (24" widescreen CRT). Great for films & desktop work. And of course the dualhead thing - even on OSs without native multihead support you could run two screens in various configurations, which was pretty unique in 2000-ish.

These days those advantages are less relevant - any integrated VGA can do multihead, and even if they couldn't, modern OSs can. Also with digital video interfaces, analog filters aren't a thing anymore. Then again, the performance disadvantages also aren't so huge - a G450 is a perfectly valid pairing with any late P3, early P4/Athon, even if it can't outperform a GeForce or Radeon (or even a fast TNT2). You can even hook it up via two Voodoo2s for GLide (as I did at some point back in the day 😜 ).

Just bought this NIB Intel board luckily on the cheap. Never messed with anything socket 370 so looking forward to
building an upper tier win98 rig. The specs. will probably end up as follows:

Tualatin 1.4ghz. (unless I don't feel like messing with the bios then I'll drop down to a lesser cpu)
256mb ddr
Quadro4 900xgl or Hercules 3D Prophet II Ultra
SB Live! 5.1 sb0100
40gb IDE
350w PSU
Case-undetermined, will have to get one. Like the older Coolermasters still on sale on Newegg.

Retro rig 2: Intel DX2 66, SB16 Ct1740 and Cirrus Logic VLB.

I received the 3 motherboard from yahoo japan yesterday, and all three have blown cap 😁

the MSI 875p master FA is a 875p chipset yet it does not support prescott cpu, kind of weird since the mainboard is geared toward the workstation folk.

Then you don't have the Millennium G450 but the Marvel G450 eTV.

In this age of digital television that tuner is pretty useless, but it can do some nice MPEG2 capture from analog video sources 😀

Scrap lot for less than 20€ (sellers pictures):
- 5,25" floppy
- 3.5" MFM MD
- 1x Seagate MFM HD: Critical point is usually the fragile flat cable at the front, unfortunately not visible on the photo
- 386 MB, for parts only...
All not looking good, but I hope some parts are working/repairable

3 Old Hard drives, 2 MFM 1 IDE. The ST-225 is spinning up and was the main reason to buy this, good sign.

...quite surprised my price proposal was just accepted for this:
- Voodoo 3 AGP
- SS7 AGP Mainboard

Lucky dog. I get good prices for some hardware, but nothing fancy. Hope I win the 486 computer I'm bidding on so that I can fix it (recapped an OG Xbox 1.6b motherboard before, a video card and re-traced a sound card using wires and solder, so it shouldn't be too hard).

The SBC is made by IEI. By the looks of the cooler, my bet is the CPU is not upgradeable but not super sure what it would be... with SDRAM support, it is probably some sort of Pentium class. Looks like it has a lot of bulging capacitors as well.

The one ISA sound card is Yamaha YMF-71x based. Very nice.

Edit:
Quick google search shows that the SBC is:
IEI Rocky-C800EVR

See here for some general info:

Hi, many thanks for finding this out! However I dont think I have much use for this as I dont own a suitable backplane.

The Souncard seems to be the Yamaha Audician 32 Plus, also very nice.

Just sold a system with that audio card in it and a Dreamblaster S1 attached. The pair make for a very compatible DOS gaming experience.

Brand new Make-It 486 has arrived today! After three or four missed opportunities to grab one of these I'm lucky to have scored this one at all. I'm excited to see what sorts of shenanigans I can undertake now.

I spend my days fighting with clunky software so I can afford to spend my evenings fighting with clunky hardware.

Finally managed to get me an ATI Rage 128 Pro PCI 32MB! But the card came and I see only two SDR chips on it; I guess I got a 64-bit version? 🙁

Do these count as retro yet? Because my launch 360 just RROD'ed after 13 years of service (Press F) and had to be replaced:

Well, I see 3 Slot 2 XEONs in that image 😀

Nice upgrade, but does it run Crysis Quake? (With the optional FPU of course.)
See if you can "beat" Elianda's 386DX/40 result in slowness.
