Hello all, hoping someone can help as i've run into a brick wall, i have an Amstrad Mega PC the PC side of this is essentially an Amstrad PC7386sx and i'm currently trying to replace the 40mb hard drive with a 512mb compact flash via an IDE adapter, just now i managed to get dos 6.22 to install on it via a GoTek floppy emulator but now it won't boot into dos, it performs its memory tests and then just sits there flashing its cursor at me. When using the original HDD it will boot into DOS just fine so the system is definitely working.
Here's what i did to get to where i am (if it looks like i missed a really obvious rookie step point it out as i genuinely probably didn't do it rather than jsut forgetting to type it)
I took a Transcend 512mb CF300 and installed it into the IDE adapter, i then used the HDD IDE and Power cables to connect the adapter and powered it on (according to Transcend this CF is "TrueIDE" compatible as a fixed disk
On boot i went into the system bios where i input the Cylinder, Head and Sector settings as per the specifications from Transcend, i then went into the bios disk formatting utility and attempted to format the disk
The utility had no problem scanning the disk but as soon as it came time to format it returned "System Error 0080" which i've not yet been able to identify and was unable to continue
I decided to attempt to install DOS 6.22 anyway to see what would happen and was surprised when the installation process completed successfully (worth noting it never asked me to format the disk which i expected it to do? it simply started installing and asked for the other disks untill the job was complete)
On reboot the memory test completed as normal and the gotek access light breifly illuminated as expected (as it would with a normal floppy drive) but then the system went no further and just left the cursor blinking, i obviously attempted a couple of reboots in case it was nothing but the result was the same every time.
The IDE adapter has a master jumper so i removed that to see if it would make any difference and this time on boot we reported an error with the fixed disk so i replaced the jumper before the next reboot at which point we went back to where we were before.
So yeah. . . . that's where i'm currently at and out of ideas as to how to proceed, any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance
