I just watched the first two episodes. Just about the only thing that could compel me to give any of my money to CBS.
So far, it feels more like a movie split up across several episodes than a conventional TV show. Perhaps in this way it is like Star Trek's equivalent of The Mandalorian.
Perhaps my opinion will change as more episodes are released, but so far it is setting up a classic Star Trek mystery thriller, Romulan conspiracies, Borg elements, and all. There is not much, however, that has not been revealed about who the current characters are working/fighting for... I think I am waiting for the other shoe to drop.
But it's not being very convincing about the whole "ban the synthetics" thing. I would have done the same. Those "synthetics" are downright creepy, and obviously easily manipulated, by whoever managed to direct them to destroy the Mars bases. I would have said "let's shut the whole thing down, obviously we can't replicate Data and the potential costs/risks are too high. Even Dr. Soong was only half successful as Data's brother was evil. Better to leave it on the table than to continue bear the high costs of failure."
