I'll be getting 200mhz 256kb cache Pentium Pro. Can this cpu run without any heatsink and cooler? If it needs a heatsink, are heatsink for any other socket type compatible with socket 8 ? I'm having hard time finding socket 8 heatsink.

Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k, 48k+, 128k, +2
Amiga 1200, 68030/40mhz
386DX/33, ET4000, SBPro2, MT32
Dual PPro/200, Millennium II, Voodoo 2, AWE32, SC-55
etc.

Doesn't need much, but it still needs one.
Also I belive theres some AMD socket coolers that fits fairly well, need to DYI a fastener tho.

110% absolutely yes. I believe they start at 30W and only go up from there -- so the lowest-end ones you can get away with passive cooling, but if you overclock at all and/or have a 1MB cache model, they have TDPs of around 45-50W, so you *must* use a fan (or, I suppose, an inordinately large passive heatsink).

Heatsink yes, fan no - if the heatsink is large enough. My 200 MHz PPro came with an OEM heaksink only installed and no fan.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I ended up ordering one from eBay and then I'll mount one of the many small fans I have around.

Technically it's just better to obtain the cheapest option with the socket clip included and mount some decent Socket 370/Socket A cooler instead.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.
