Now for something different. Let me show you 5 of my 6 Amigas (leaving out the A500, as it's just a stock one). Hope you like them. 😀

Amiga 600 Rev. 1.5
* Kickstart 3.1
* M-Tec 630 with 68030 @ 40 MHz + FPU, 4 MB Fast-RAM
* A604n + RTC
* IndivisionECS V1
* MP3@64
* CF adapter with external access

This is the one I use most of the time. It will get black key-caps in the near future.

Ah, Furia. Good choice!

Well, I probably wouldn't buy this card again. It's very picky on which A600 board and which IDE device it works with. The first Furia card I got did not work stable in any of my A600. Sent it in for repairs, got a firmware update and all, but was still not working for me. This second one also only works with that particular CF card. But it works at least and that A600 is not really used anyway.

black suits the amiga really well... oh how I wish they weren't that expensive ^^

I think the same. To me, the Amiga platform -or say Commodore hardware in general- became the epitome of profiteering.
By comparison, the historic Macintoshes (or is it "Macintoshy" ?) are really cheap, even.
Anyway, I have to stop here as I'm going off-topic. 😓

I've recently started exploring Amigas, I've never had one before. I picked up an A500 with monitor and "other stuff" for £100. I put a Gotek emulator in it but.... I can't really get into it. It's quite a faff to set it up and it takes up too much space to leave up permanently, it uses a propriety power connector (and video connector) so I can't use the cabling or monitor I've got set up for my "hot swap" retro area; constant disk swapping and the games are perhaps slightly too primitive for my tastes. Now I am not really sure what to do with it!

My current plan is to use the RCA adapter thing it came with that sticks out the back, and plug that into a capture card in my XP PC that is currently set up in the hot swap area, and play games on the VGA monitor through the capture card, at 25fps and terrible quality compared to the proper monitor.

I have a vacancy for a main Windows 98 PC

weird for me furia worked and still works very stable... what I don't like is how these expansions clip on the 68000 - sure there is no other way but this has been problematic since the 90s with the a600

Amiga 500.. 🙄 That game's console. I had one, too. It was sold a million times, like the original beige Gameboy.

Sure technically, that is an "Amiga" (in practice, it's "the Amiga" per se). What I meant were real computers, though.
With dedicated keyboard and expansions slots. Amiga 1000, 1500, 2000.. 😀

Edit: @OP No offense. Your A600 looks nice and tidy. 😀
@Almoststew1990 I'm aware that the A500 had that little trap-door "slot". 😀

Surely that's possible somehow. People used to do the same with a VC20, a tape reel and a bunch of ancient golem (animatronics). Or so I heard.
Men like Mac Gyver, Chuck Norris or Spongebob probably could have done that with less, say a hamster, lots of twine and some packs of chewing gum. 😁

Edit: Seriously though. What I originally was being refering to with "real computers" are expandable computers in a metal case. Desktop, tower, 19" rack..
These are the types of Amiga computers that are hard to come by these days. Ten years ago, you could get A2000s for reasonable prices still.
(Because Amiga die-hards didn't love it, claimed it was "PC like" or "IBM like" and thus had no soul - what ever that means).
Long story short - by "real" computers I meant : Not homecomputers (- as common in the 8-Bit era-) that are essentially cost-reduced
laptop designs missing their built-in monitor.

In case you didn't know an A500 is a COMPUTER with a multitasking OS. It is capable of many tasks not just games. HDDs were avaiable for and many other assecories an software. No different than any other COMPUTER.

Well, the A500 in stock configuration is not the best choice when trying to get into the Amiga computers for the first time. And that's what Almoststew1990 just found out. The A500 has a large footprint, doesn't even have color composite without the additional TV modulator, has no way to install a hard disk without needing additional expansions, etc. It's still a nice system if you accept what it is - and what it is not.

These days, the best you can do with an A500 is to add an ACA-500Plus. This will greatly enhance what you can do with it and give you all sorts of comfort of a modern retro-gaming solution. However, it will make the A500 even larger, as it installs externally.
