Halal markets are specialty stores that tend to cater to Canadian residents from south Asia. There's more variety of south Asian food and it tends to be fresher. I live in the middle of nowhere, so getting fresh pita bread at one is pretty much off the cards.
Ahhh.... You meant halal-markets. Halal is actually the way muslims slaughter animals. It is pretty simple. Slice the throat, and say a prayer.
Here in Denmark, there are strict rules regarding food and germs/bacterias. And halal slaughtering are only legal here, if the animal was sedated.
Nearly 90% of all chickens in Denmark are actually halal slaughtered. They are dragged through water with electricity.
Then there are a muslim priest sitting all day, doing nothing but praying over the sedated chickens, and finally they are being run through
a machine that cuts the heads off. Just imagine. Being paid, to pray all day long. Must be the easiest job in the world.
Actually... Taking the prayer part away. Then that is how pigs are slaughtered here in Denmark. They are sedated by gassing them.
Then they have the throat slid, and a knife with electricity jammed into their heart.
The problem with halal, is the countries in were they do not sedate the animal. They just let the animal bleed out, while they pray.
At least halal meat slaughtered in Denmark, are like 2/3 of the price that you normally pay. Yet the butcher shops are few and far apart.
I don't care, if I know that it was halal slaughtered in Denmark. Cheaper and higher quality.
Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....
