One of you knew I was looking at that Inspiron 8100. The one on eBay. The one in Michigan. And you bought it anyway! Even though I specifically didn't want you to!

I only have one question: how could you?

EDIT: You monster!

Recommendation: You forgot to add "You monster!" to such question, meatbag.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

Not me ! I personally hate laptops in general.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

I didn't buy it. There is a laptop I am thinking about buying though.. for parts and if it works to have as a backup.

Even ones that can be docked and have ISA/PCI slots in the dock as well as 5.25", 3.5" external drive bays and an internal 3.5" drive bay? No, not the Thinkpad dock.

You can turn an Inspiron 8000 into a 8100 by upgrading the CPU, memory, GFX card and installing a Wi-Fi antenna and adaptor. The two are otherwise the same. (Not the 8200 though).

What was so special about this laptop?
A quick sold auctions on ebay search gives many sold ones for cheap...

So why didn't you buy it when you had the chance?

I had actually asked the seller a question about it and was waiting for a response when it went poof. Learned my lesson, haha.

This laptop has the chipset I want and has a removable/upgradable GPU. And it was clean. Like it looked brand new and the guy wanted $60 for it.

That laptop is the same model, but is listed as "for parts". The one I missed out on was fully intact and functional.

Just look for another, and move on..... And it was not me. I don't have any interest in laptops anyway, unless I need a new daily driver, and a modern one will serve me better. As I am running Linux and want to have horse powers.

EDIT:
Just remember. Of all the people that are shopping computer stuff on eBay. Only a fraction are on Vogons. So the buyer might not even know about this place.

Not I! I'm sniping other people's ISA/PCI cards and CD drives, mostly. We have a stack of old Dell laptops in our storage room at work, so no need to hit eBay for those, if I had any interest -- which I don't. 😉 I did check, and there are no Inspiron 8100s.

I mean hopefully it was clear that my post was 100% in jest. I hope it was someone from here because it's a great laptop at a steal of a price. I ended up grabbing another one in only slightly worse condition, so all is well on my end.

i had an 8200 like that. fantastic machine except the 4500rpm hdd. a ram upgrade was amazing for it.
Id have another if i got the right deal.

4500RPM... good golly. The 8100 I picked up apparently has a 4200 spin in it! Think it might even be worth benching it before and after.

I hate that. That happened to me last year. I was asking a guy "is that an Athlon XP or P4 sticker?" and he was being incoherent and slow and meanwhile someone bought it for $25. Now the lowest price for a working one seems, I don't know, $100?

eBay is such a pain at times.

what I hate more is when I make a seller an offer on buy it now items, then get an absolute ridiculous offer back and don't even respond... and some days later I get a message that it has been sold for the same or less than my offer was ^^
