Hello,

please find here my latest PC recreation (that I hadn't been able to afford by that time):

Board: MSI MS6119 Ver. 1.1 (1998)
CPU: Pentium II, 400MHz, with Intel cooler (1998)
RAM: 128MB, Mo SDRAM PC100, Hyundai GMM26416233ENT
2D-Grafik: Matrox G200A, 8MB (1998)
3D-Grafik: SLI 2x Voodoo 2, Creative Labs CT6670, 2x12MB (1998)
Sound: SB 128 PCI, CT4700 (1998)
HDD: 6,4gb IDE, IBM DTTA-350640 (1998)
ODD: DSR-520H DVD-ROM (5,2X/32X), DVS Korea Co. (Feb. 1999)
FDD: 1.44 MB 3.5", D359T7, Newtronics Mitsumi
Case: NoName ATX (ca. 199x)
PSU: ATX 380W, Seasonic SS-380GB Active PFC F3

OK, the PSU is non period, but I won't like to fire up that hardware with a chinese firecracker of '98.

Building my own PCs since 1991 - for my retro builds it's "no CF-disks, no Floppy emulators, no modern cases etc.", only the real and authentic stuff whenever possible.

I would recommend some cooling for the voodoo 2 cards for longevity. I did personally leave an empty slot between them and bought a noctua case fan that I did put to the front of the case blowing air towards the cards and it definitely made the chips on the cards much cooler.

Sound: SB 128 PCI, CT4700 (1998)

A SB Live would probably be a better choice while still remaining period correct. I still have nightmares of the godawful FM synthesis emulation (or whatever it was) on the SB128.

Great rig overall though! Love the Voodoo cards + Matrox combo in particular. Razor sharp 2D image and the best 3D graphics at the time.

Very simialr to my PC back in 98
P2 400
64MB Ram, Upgraded to 128MB in 99
16MB TNT, V2 was also an option but the TNT was better deal back then
Soundblaster 64 PCI
SB16 ISA
10GB HDD
32x CD-ROM, added a DVD drive in 99 or 2000 though.
Realtek 100MB nic

Played loads of NFS3,4 Red Alert 2 by myself as well as booting into dos and playing doom, Warcraft 1 &2 and C&C/RA against my brother on the 486....good times

Yeah we figured out that the 486 never stand a Chance against Pentium playing over Nullmodem.
Some In-Game Things where always faster on the Pentium.

It was not a fair competition in C&C/RA 😁

That blue part on the Case just kills me. Does it get any more "90s" than that?
Kudos on keeping the RAM amount real.
Sound card mainly boils down to personal taste and focus of software. An early SB live would be period correct and provide modern effects in later game. Maybe combined with an ISA or external MIDI.
Or you could mess around with PCI cards that connect to J1 on the Mobo, aka "SB-link connector".

Back in the days, I considered the whole "Slot" path as utter BS and went from P1 over SS7 to socket A.

If ony those Voodoos had not become so darn expensive...

I like jumpers.
