My IBM have both slot but come with 168 pin edo ram that i never seen.

What are the differences in performance compared to the normal 72 pin SIM? It's nice to have this ram different than usual, even if it's only 16mb, I think that's enough for a P1 75-200. tnks

If it is a EDO DIMM and not SDRAM DIMM then there should be no difference compared to 2x SIMMs. It is the same thing in different physical package.

SDRAM could be a bit faster but not so much in this generation.

Sadly the picture isn't clear enough, but it looks like your module is either buffered or parity (the extra chip in the middle). If it is a buffered DIMM then on the HX these are slower than ordinary SIMMs as the chipset is adding additional wait-state for the lead-off cycle 🙁

Some chipsets are slower with parity chips too but it is not universal.

So even if it is EDO then replacing it with two ordinary SIMMs might prove to be faster.

These IBM use buffered 5V EDO DIMMs.
The only other machines using these I know are the Vectra XU6/200 Dual PPro and some IBM RS/6000.
Due to the buffer it might be slightly slower then conventional EDO RAM, as mpe allready mentioned.
if I remember right both types of slots can be populated to max RAM.
