I know a source port is an option but wanted to see if it's possible to get this game looking a little better with Dosbox. Using
the front end D-Fend and it runs fine just looks "rough". Anyone have any settings they can share?

There's no magical settings in DOSBox to enhance software rendered 3D games. Pixel scalers would make it worse. Hell, the "recommended" source ports that do exist mess up the scaling of floors and don't understand pixel aspects...

But I've seen clips where it looks hell of a lot sharper than on my flat screen. Probably due
to it being played on a CRT I guess.

I will tomorrow, but I do know D-Fend Reloaded had a "template" just for the game so went with that.

Here is the config file if anyone cares to take a look and offer suggestions.

Didn't know there were different iterations of this game besides the shareware. I got what I thought was the
full version Rise of the Triad "The Hunt Begins" Deluxe CD but in the menu it won't let me pick whatever
character but directs to an order form to pay up. Guess I needed the Dark War version?

Just change the settings to what jmarsh said, it should give you the sharp, crispy pixels you're looking for.

IIRC WinROTTGL correctly handles the aspect ratio issue. Regular WinROTT and the icculus port don't.

Technical aspects aside, WinROTTGL is a lot easier on tired old eyes. It's a fun game, different breed of FPS than what I'm used to.
