I installed a modern SS7 PC and installed Windows 98 on it. I didnt like to have more cables here therefore I took a random WLAN-PCI card I found in a scrap box. Was not easy to find infos about setting up WLAN in Windows 98, so here how I did it for my future reference 😉

Card:
Belkin Wireless G+Desktop Card
Model no. F5D7001
FCC ID: K7SF5D7001B
Broadcom BCM4318 BCM4318EKFBG 43xx/Bcm94309mp

According to the official page its Version 2xxx and Windows 98 is unsupported:

According to this page you can use different drivers:

(BROADCOM_Bcm94309mp_MINI_PCI.ZIP)

Then for WLAN configuration you need another Software which is not included. I used the one included in the Version 1xxx driver package of above mentioned Belkin page (f5d7001_1212.exe).

EDIT: For WPA2 you also need i.e. Odyssey (OdysseyClient9x.exe), see below.

Linking with my WPA AP was no problem, also got the IP via DHCP without further config.

Wait...its actually not WPA2 but WPA...sorry for that.
I think I was rather lucky with my selection anyway. It was on the top one on my pile and dont know why I kept it at all, usually I dont keep WLAN cards...

Rats, and I just got my hopes inflated. 😀

That's not so bad, though. Many routers allow combined WPA/WPA2 encryption, so a lot of people would be satisfied with that.

Yes, I just checked. Thats why I was thinking I have WPA2. My router is configured to use WPA/WPA2 and my other devices connect via WPA2...

But maybe its possible to select WPA2 with another configuration software under Win 98? Maybe I will the check the one from the link you provided later.

The card itself should support it...

So the Ralink Client didnt work with the card but I installed Odyssey (OdysseyClient9x.exe) over the previous setup and that seems to work with WPA2:

That's great. Odyssey Client is a generic utility that often enables WPA2 when the hardware supports it but the official utility does not.
