I plan to do a live stream on ANSI C coding. As a part of my ongoing "Let's Code MS DOS" series, I hope to use this as a possibility to answer technical questions from the audience. Proposed time: 2020-03-14 20:30 CET (19:30 UTC).

I'd love to participate in that livestream but, Youtube livestreams are painful to access since Google doesn't seem to give any third-party access to the chat system and they actively try to prevent things like streamlink from being able to access the raw stream video ontop of that.

I am pretty new to streaming. I will eventually try to stream e.g. to Twitch as well, but that will take some time, since I think OBS can't stream to two sites at once out of the box. I am currently focusing on YouTube, so if you want to join, I would be glad to welcome you. I am sure if your interest is big enough, you can simply watch via the YT website. 😀

I don't really have time to tune into unedited 2+ hour live streams, so I can't really say I am the audience but there are people who appreciate it I guess.

I mean, if I was in my teens or twenties I'd probably have so much time I wouldn't know what to do with I would binge on these all day.

These days, though.. 😒

That's the thing, I don't know what Google did to YouTube but a livestream page eats up two whole CPU cores and trying to do literally anything on the page freezes sometimes up to five seconds. The internet seriously isn't what it used to and every single browser is plagued by code rot nobody plans on fixing anytime this decade.

Twitch is the only service I can make use of without even having to touch the site except when I need to "follow" somebodies channel, since there doesn't seem to be any way of doing that through the IRC system.

Noted. Twitch is on my todo list, but not for tonight. The web has become very heavy indeed. YT in particular. A lot is down to the video codecs that become more demanding (in order to reduce bitrate). But lots of JS running as well I guess.

I realize I'm in the wrong time zone for just about everybody to announce last-minute, late-night streaming, but I'm bored & I'm online right now. Tune in if you wanna!

^^ One sample & 3 envelopes for the whole track. Nice!

I'm not familiar with the original game but I checked out it's OST & your cover seems spot on.

How come you changed the tempo between 120 & 121 each 16th note? This isn't exactly a "swing" track... were you just trying to get an intermediate value or create a bit of imperceptible ropeyness for mood?

Because it's the only way I can get the timing closer to the original. There's no concept of a "fine granularity" when it comes to tempo and ticks per row. So you have to alternate a value back and forth.

If you look at my Hitman: Codename 47 - Hong Kong Themes cover I do the exact same thing there.

Let's Code MS DOS 0x14: Hello World in x86 Assembly

In the last live stream we did some Turbo C inline assembly, which was pretty fun. But let’s today use an actual pure assembler: the Borland Turbo Assembler. And let’s demystify some of the things surrounding assembly language. It is actually not that hard, so let’s write a hello world program, using assembly, for MS DOS!

Interesting way of doing it... Couldn't you run it at 18 ticks per row and the "tempo" to 241? I think that's within IT's limits. Although TBH your way sounds fine, you don't hear the tempo jitter with that small a variation.

I use the same trick to create new jack swing-style groove tempo, but with a way wider swing variance. The technique probably dates back to the first Amiga modules...
