Picked up an Intergraph Intense 3D, a pretty early OpenGL workstation card. It gets a whopping 1 frame every 10 seconds in Quake 3 (with all the settings maxed out).

The "dual CPU pentium board", Note the extra pin on the non-ZIF socket. I think this is really a cache controller.

That's no extra pin. That's D42. It stands out as there are other VCC and VSS pins missing in the E-row compared to Socket 5. But that pretty much copies the CPU pinout.

Cache controller on 430NX would be weird as there is already one in the chipset.

Got some more hardware today. Got this really nice Highscreen ATX (with removable standoffs for both AT and ATX) Miditower for €10, which will likely house an Epox EP58-MVP3C-M Pentium 233MMX (OC @300MHz) system that's currently in another AT case. I'll see about having an AT I/O shield printed for it. It is missing the power button (the physical switch, not the plastic bit and spring), and the USB port behind the cover, but that should be relatively easy to fix. (Just using the seller's picture, by the way)

Interesting, I had this exact PC in October 1997 (Vobis Highscreen XI Allround 233). It came factory equipped with a FIC PA-2010+, Pentium MMX 233, 32 MB SD-RAM, 2 GB HDD, ATI Mach 64 2 MB, 24x CD drive (Teac CD-524EA). OS not included. Price: 999 DM. I loved the USB 1.1 port at the front, this design was at least 2-3 years ahead of its time back then.

OK, so like in the picture, you have now 128kB cache (2 data chips too much but that should not hurt), and it works ok? As shown in the picture, you have set the cache size correctly to 128k
Is this correct?

Just to be sure. Did you set the cache size to 256kB, when you put in all 8 data chips?

Chaintech 6VJD, my first VIA DDR PIII mainboard. I think I have now the whole collection of PIII chipsets. This boy will be added to the Tualatin chipset competition Pt II.

An QU37ES Xeon PIII 700/1M on 2,8V.

4 Golden Orb knockoffs (one pictured), but they look too similar to have been made outside the same factory.

these were part of the big lot recently from 3 different auctions... even though these were sold as scrap, I kindly asked the seller to pack them well and they were, all in pretty good condition too.

a few sound cards, and I think the first CT1350B with CT1366 and not CT1366A that I got.

Yeah, when all 8 are populated I set it to 256kb.
Going with your suggested configuration for 128kb, so the first 4 populated and the last 4 empty, plus the tag, I get no error, but Phil’s software also doesn’t detect any L2 Cache.

I don’t know enough about how those L2 cache sockets are linked, as I haven’t looked at any diagrams, however I’m guessing they are interconnected in series. I’m sure many on here know the details.
Because it’s banks 0&1, I suspect that when they aren’t populated due to the suggested manufacturers suggested layout, Cache won’t be detected as the series is broken. However if I populate those 2, or even just one, it’s seeing something but there is a physical problem with the electrical tracing on some pins causing the link to break.

I have a multi metre I can test the pins with, and bounced some questions off my father who’s an electronics technician, but even still this seems like a lot more work than I want to get into for 2 reasons. The first even if I do isolate a broken trace I can’t fix it, and two all the time I’m investing in this board, it’s still a VLB’less and PCI’less board.

For 128kb populate the 4 with the writing bank 0 only.

I hate to admit this but I had a similar cache problem and it turned out that it needed to be enabled in the bios as well

Refurbished U2412M, an affordable 1920x1200 LED backlit monitor that can handle 1600x1200 without stretching, if I did my research right .

Hyundai branded Gigabyte GA-486VS, heavily corroded 😒
and an unkown "MB456"? heavy corrosion on the battery and some on the ISA, board looks mostly OK but traces in the battery area might need some repair.

What a haul!

This week I purchased an entire PC which turned out to have a broken motherboard. Dissapointing but I did get a case that will be very useful to me(with psu, 2xhdd and 2xcd) as well as a soundcard, videocard and not pictured 2x 32MB 72pin ram sticks.

imi, where do you store so many boards if I may ask? I have around 20 and they take up so much space I find myself having to sell inferior options whenever I come across something more premium.. It's the one thing I can't really 'hoard' many of, they take up so much space!

I recently ordered another ~650 shielded bags of all sizes, now I finally also have ones that fit full length BabyAT and ATX boards, I currently store them upright in euro-boxes, one 600x400x320 box fits like 30+ AT baords, less if ATX, but I've recently started moving them into dedicated cardboard boxes that are 305x220x50 for smaller baby AT boards and 350x250x50 for larger baby AT and non full-width ATX boards so I can store eventual accessories with them easily and have them labeled in plain sight, unfortunately full width ATX boards don't fit in those boxes and larger sizes aren't available for cheap or just too large.

but yes, they do take up a lot of space ^^ I'm using up big part of the basement only for storage... let's not start talking about CRTs

That 486 board with the symphony chipset (isa only) is a beauty, hope it works.

I ordered an active HDMI to Displayport adapter (yes, they do exist) . It is not retro per se, but the plan is to have it in-line between a VGA to HDMI scaler and a Displayport monitor input . That way I can keep switching inputs on the monitor while using a VGA to HDMI scaler with a VGA card and another DVI card (hooked up to HDMI monitor input)on my main retro rig ( FX5900 and Voodoo 3) .
