Hello there,

i have a good working Matsonic MS6260S BIOS (From 1999) but i need a newer BIOS or patched BIOS to recognize more then 32 GB IDE HDDs.
Had anyone the same Board or a patched Bios, that can i Flash on my BIOS-Chip, or can anyone apply the IDE Patch to my attached File ?

Here is my Board:

If you are lucky there is an identical PC-Chips motherboard, it is probably easier to find a BIOS for the PC-Chips board (if it exists).

New PC: i9 12900K @5GHz all cores @1.2v. MSI PRO Z690-A. 32GB DDR4 3600 CL14. 3070Ti.
Old PC: Dual Xeon X5690@4.6GHz, EVGA SR-2, 48GB DDR3R@2000MHz, Intel X25-M. GTX 980ti.
Older PC: K6-3+ 400@600MHz, PC-Chips M577, 256MB SDRAM, AWE64, Voodoo Banshee.

The Pendant is then the PC Chips M579 ?
I found the following Link -> http://www.elhvb.com/mobokive/Archive/PcChips … m579/index.html
The release.txt shows also a BIOS of 1999.

But the Bios is also outdated at 1999.

Will be nice to someone patch or tweaking my original ROM with the LBA48 Patch oder someone had a Download-Link for me 😀

Thanks

If you are unable to patch the existing BIOS, then you should be able to use a dynamic drive overlay to let you use larger drives with that system. This is how I was able to install a 4GB drive into an old 486 that otherwise was limited to 2.1GB. It's not the most optimal solution, but in some cases it can be the only solution.

Another possibility that springs to mind (but which I personally have never attempted) is using a separate IDE controller card instead of the onboard controller. I would presume that some (if not most or all) drive controller cards have their own BIOS/firmware that can properly recognize drives larger than what the motherboard BIOS can natively handle.

Yea the PC Chips M579 looks to be the same board but if the PC Chips BIOS is just as old I guess there are no reasons for risking a crossflash.

Perhaps you could get Jan Steunebrink to patch the BIOS if you ask nicely. You can find his mail on his K6-3+ page.

Hi @ All,

thanks for the tips. I checked out that this Motherboard has a 32 GB Limit. All HDD´s above this put the Award Bios to Hang at IDE Initialisation.
Good idea to ask to J.Steunebrink to patch the BIOS 😀

Thanks in Advance

OP, by chance is there a jumper set on your hard drive that limits the drive to 32GB? If not, can you manually enter the drive data in the BIOS to enable LBA?

Hi RetroBoogie,

this was my first attempt, my Harddisk allows a "Clip" Jumper to 32GB. This now successfully works, but it will be nice to gain Access to the complete 80GB.
I written a eMail to J. Steunebrink. We will see 😉

Greetings.

Greetings,

sorry for this very late Update of my Thread... Had do to something other and less Time...

So, here is the Status:

I spoke with J.Steunebrink and he tell me a very simple Information because he is not able to actually editing/modding AMI Bios Software but has no Problems with Award Editing 😀
First, undo the Clip Jumper (32 GB Limit). Just go straigt to the BIOS, disable Auto Detection and editing the Drive Specifications manually but this first Attempt don t work. I found a bug in my Bios when it goes over 40GB so i play around with my Cylinders to go nearly to this Limit and with this i can now set the full Capacity on the Disk with the Operating System 😀

Greetings

Here's the original bios from the board that I have in my collection. I don't know the version, and it's impossible for me to power up the board and check now (can do it in a few days if it is necessary). Hope it helps.

Edit: if someone has the original headers for J1 and J2, a pinout of those would be immensely helpful. It can even be approximative, e.g. USB connects to pins 1 to 8, PS2 connects to 9-12 and so on. Even some pictures would help, I think 😀

thx,Thank you, I wanted this version (8.14.1998S).
Unfortunately, now the socket board does not recognize k6-2 + 550mhz.
Bios sees "AMD 500";)

I will check how the AGP behaves.

maybe there is another bios?

Yes, the MATSONIC MS6260S must be a rebranded PcChips M579. My MS6260S board has arrived the same "M579-T99" tagged bios as quicknick, but the Dubinius one has "MS6260S" tag.

I have both the original headers but the J1 (for the USB; PS/2 mouse and IR) is not a simply header but a card with ribbon cable: "ATX Form Card" and it have two 10V 470μF capacitors for USBs and other components for all connectors. So althougs the first 8 pins of the J1 are the same as the most common USB pinout: http://www.frontx.com/cpx108_2p3.gif (except the "S-GND" is not connected) but with a normal USB header with this wiring will not work moreover can cause damages. I have attached images about my ATX Form Card. I thing PcChips have used this pinout/cards for same age and later AT form factor motherboards, because I see a later card with green PS/2 mouse connector (my one is "REV: 1.0" and all connectors are black), and you can still buy this card from some sites:
https://www.google.hu/search?tbm=isch&q=%22atx+form+card%22

J2 (C-Media CMI8330) header is an easier rebuildable thing. I have measured the pinout. Here are my results:

What the bios shows/writes at boot "AMD 500" is must be just a cosmetic problem only. My board with the same bios version shows/writes "Cyrix M II-350" but diagnostic program (AIDA16 v2.14) writes "PR433" which means my CPU is runs on the correct (the jumpered) speed.
With this old bios version how the AGP behaves? What was the big problem with the 10/26 / 1999 (the last) bios version?

This is the oldest one

I got between bios versions - special thanks to edwin (www.elhvb.com). I have tested all of them, and there is no difference, all have problems with some nVidia cards.
Although I have succesfully installed on Win98 SE the GeForce2 GTS with Detonator 5.13 (4.12.01.0513) driver and GeForce 3 with Detonator 7.76 (4.12.01.0776).

I was wrong. Although the M II and K6-2 are only cosmetic problem, the K6-2+ and K6-III+ CPUs are works without problem with the latest bios version.
I have tested them:

I have succesfully used 512MB SDRAM modules in this motherboard (two of them so I can reach the maximum cached size: 1GB).
