I have a retro PC which uses Windows XP. Recently, I have downloaded a few games on my phone for playing on my retro PC, but the android device doesn't connect to the Windows XP, probably because they require different drivers. Can anyone help me for transferring files from Android to PC?

Most Android devices have a USB mass storage mode which should not require any special drivers on Windows XP. You may need to configure the device to present itself as a USB mass storage, and how to do so may be device-specific.

On my Win10 PC, as I insert the USB cable, the Phone comes up with a option to choose between file transfer, photo transfer and keep charging. I select the desired option. This worked on Win 7 too.
On WinXp this comes up but the OS comes up with a Add Device prompt.

Android stopped using mass storage mode nearly 10 years ago and switched to MTP/PTP. I don't think XP has support for that by default.
Newer Android versions don't expose the USB Mass Storage mode. If the phone is rooted and its kernel supports USB Gadget, USB MASS STORAGE Enabler may be used. It's not possible to access internal storage this way, only external SD card.
MTP mode is commonly available on today's Android phones. You can teach Windows XP MTP speak by installing Windows Media Player 11.
Supposedly, it's possible to install MTP support without installing Windows Media Player 11 by extracting and running certain installers packed inside Windows Media Player 11 installer (source).

You're all right, my bad. I confused MTP with Mass Storage. On my WinXP, PTP worked right away, but that's limited to photos only. For MTP I had to install a driver from the phone's manufacturer. There is a generic MTP driver for XP out there, but it did not work from me (it's from 2013 and does not have device IDs for newer devices).

If I download the MTP driver for my device, can I access my device from My Computer.
The android phone is Oppo A83 and I have found the required driver for it but haven't installed it, in case I find phone is not accessible from My Computer

Install Windows Media Player 11 first, which has the required prerequisites for MTP support. If the phone still isn't auto-detected as media device, employing the trick outlined here may help.

I actually have WMP11 installed on my XP laptop, and it still would not detect my phone in MTP mode, until I installed the manufacturer's driver. Then it started working immediately.

Yeah I miss the olden days when USB Mass Storage mode was easily accessible on Android devices. Now they have dumbed it down with MTP using either KIES or WMP. No thanks.
Thankfully good ol' FTP works perfectly for transferring files to/from any of my Android devices to any of my PCs over WIFI, no drivers required. Bonus: if you have Linux or OSX boxen, you're covered.

/I was about to install it but I have to activate Windows first, as I had not activated it earlier. The key I used was on another PC so I have to get a new key first. 😒

I do this, only the other way round ^^ phone acts as host and I connect to it from my PC
