That's awesome Brostenen. I'm glad you were able to get a great landlord and I hope your move goes smoothly as well.

Thanks. Yeah. I am happy with this outcome. My brothers will come and help moving and then I am all done. Her new man, have already started to put pictures on the wall and all his shit are moved in. It will be great to move now. That dude have been living here with his children, since last wednesday.

Am I in the wrong, when I say that this is not ok? Or am I just too thin skinned?

I personally don't think how your feeling is wrong. It's really in poor taste on their part. But you'll be in your own place soon enough and moved on with your life.

I'm happy for you. Things worked out in the end. Your landlord sure seems helpful as well.

And, yeah, it seems wrong, and in poor taste. She sure is quick, but hey, it's not really your problem anymore 😉

I found my dad's old soldering iron and played around with it. Even got a new tip for it. It's one of those non-grounded coiled wire ones with the nail-style tip that nobody should be buying anymore, and I already have a decent soldering station, but I'm not going to throw away working (or easily fixable) tools (or hardware in general, much to the chagrin of the former 😉 )
I was surprised to see that despite its puny size and weight, it is actually powerful enough to work on motherboards with no issues whatsoever. I even used it to repair a GF4Ti4600 where a capacitor had broken off.
I also got 100 tiny heatsinks and applied some on the VRAM chips of the latter card.

to keep the build moving forward, i decided to test out my new power supply and see if sli even works on this 680i sli motherboard.
i have a few quadro fx4800 laying around so i gave them a try and they worked very well.

Try going for the GTS 250's. They seem cheaper and more likely to work, and are the same as the gtx 9800's. Iv had 2 8800GT's die on me and one 320mb gtx 8800 that is still working to this day in my old neighbor's pc after I reflowed and repasted it. But id call that a fluke.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

I'm really just trying to fill a hole in my collection. I have a build for each Nvidia series from GeForce 256 thru gtx 280. I am missing an 8 series build so I'll have to stick with an 8800 for now.

Probably will be fine. I hope.

Check the slots (that motherboard is mounted to the metal tray) that bracket's tongue fits into, not the screw end. Might be blocking tongue from inserted properly.

I run into this many times and had to bend the tongue little to get seated fully.

Cheers,

Great Northern aka Canada.

My Socket 7 build was like that and I didn't look to see if the board was completely inserted correctly as the bottom was sticking out like a sore thumb. Did some further progress with the Socket 7 build, but it's still acting weird. It'll either boot to DOS or Windows 98SE then lock up or get stuck after detecting the LS-120 drive, my 200GB HDD (shrunk to 32GB), and CD-RW drive. And this is with my Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold installed, so methinks a conflict is somewhere or something else is acting up.

Soon, I'll modify a 3.5" bay cover to place the 4-bit 4-digit PC POST card display into the front end so that I can see the display in case something goes wrong.

Are the motherboard standoffs original to the case? Do any of the other installed cards do this?

The lip on the card's backplate may be bent a little too far and catching on the case, too.

Or not enough.. Sometimes I find I need to bend lips on the brackets outward a bit for them to actually fit.

Received a new computer for my collection today and have been playing around with it and trying out a bunch of games & software packages.

An Acorn BBC Micro Model B -

MlL4uVYh.jpg

I never personally owned one of these back in the day, but did use them quite a bit at school.

Connected up my Gotek, with a USB stick full of .SSD disk images. Didn't work properly at first, then I noticed there was an option if the FF.CFG that needed altering and it was fine then.

It's working well at the moment with manually selecting disk images on the Gotek. I'm going to have to try and figure out how to get the menu system for Gotek working later on.

This is a modern ATX case. Standoffs are original. Look likes the AGP card fits but despite some bending of the metal backplates I can't get the others to snug a the way into the slot.

Should be fine, right? It's mostly in there as the picture showed.

If you take the bracket off does the card sit all the way in?

Would appear so.
No idea. Some cards fit fine I guess if the AGP slot goes in all the way.

I've had issues similar in the past where the part of the case the bracket slots into is bent in and all I had to do was just tweak those pockets a little and the cards for again
