And as a result they'll do this to the next customer as well.
Asking for a full refund is almost mandatory in this case even if it was sold as "crap".
That will show them to package their stuff properly next time or face the consequences again.
Don't just roll over and accept this.

I am sure for a lot of people, it comes to the point where you're seemingly approaching something regarding reasonable storage capacity being reached.

The shelves are filled, the boxes in the garage are getting cramped. The significant other is giving you funny looks.

One of the saddest parts of collecting is deciding at what point you've reached that capacity. It's obviously different amounts for different people, but I suspect the feeling is the same regardless of whether it's a shelf or an entire room.

It's the point where you have to take a hard look at everything you have collected, and decide what you are willing to part with in order to make space for something new.

I've found it becomes both easier and harder as time goes on.

Easier because you're used to moving items by this point. You know how to pack and ship efficiently and securely, where to sell or who to trade with. You know the values

Harder because over time, you're likely acquiring more and more things you are genuinely interested in and not just collecting for the sake of collecting like many do when you're starting out. It becomes harder to figure out what you're willing to part with when your collection becomes focused and items in it are more and more the end result of long waits, searches and negotiations.

Such is life when you are looking for new hardware experiences to try out, I guess.

Space is definitely a big one 😜
I got a pretty large collection, so at some point I had to start getting creative and more serious about storage.
But at some point I got the thought "I have all that I really need now" and the size of my collection has been relatively stable for a number of years now (I still gain some stuff now and again and I also toss out some useless or broken stuff from time to time).

I've thought about selling, but it was never really worth the trouble and the commitment to me. Perhaps some day when I feel the timing is right but right now I have other things in my life that will keep me occupied 😀

I've tried out a LOT of different hardware (though mostly from the 1994 to 2010 period or so with the vast majority being AGP systems and a couple PCI and PCI-E) but I've definitely not tried everything that I wanted to try yet. Still got some unfinished business 😜

I looked the computer over, and the side plastic panel was broken off, the face plate was broken and later fell off, the metal cadge that holds the CD-ROM and hard drive was bent and warped, but surprisingly the computer still works, the capacitors are all good, and the lose heat-sink that was rolling around inside the case during shipping seemed to have done no damage that I can see, however the eBay description said "Condition: For parts or not working" and I had expected a dead motherboard, or something like that, that I would replace or fix, and I needed the case more than anything else, and the images showed a computer that was in very good shape, but the poor shipping basically left me with nothing but parts, I am just going to count this has a loss and move on.

It was damaged in shipping due to poor packaging. Doesn't matter if it was "for parts or not working". Seller will continue to do the same thing if they don't get called out on it.

Man, I just hate how much the world changed in 30 years.
The creators of Street rod actually required owners to make a copy of their disks to preserve the originals in good condition.
I can't even rip a DVD legally now with all the DRM protections in place.

Yar har, fiddle dee dee, I'll do as I please with a DVD. Except play it in my primary system, apparently, as Windows 10 hates DVDs being used for anything but reading plain data. Can't play movies, can't play VOB files, can't even write DVDRs without the system throwing DRM errors, or in the case of the latter, halting entirely. Oh well, since I'm being prevented from legally utilizing my property, I'll just use other methods.

This will be one of the biggest collecting rants in a few years for sure.

Unfortunately that's where we're heading, and it will just mean that personally I'll just buy and play a lot less games if it's all digital.

well, it's a good thing I stocked up on retro hardware to authentically replay all the good old games I played, and especially the ones I didn't play instead 😀

I still buy digital sometimes, but surely not at the full retail asking price for most modern games... I usually buy bundles or if games are under €10... I just don't feel like paying a lot of money for something I cannot truly own.

True. I love boxed games that aren't "tethered" to the Internet. I love seeing my game collection, the booklets and manuals that come with the games.
When I'm downloading a game from a game server I feel like I don't even own it and I'm one HDD failure away from losing everything I paid for.

If you buy from GOG - you truly own it. You get a full and DRM-free offline installer that will never stop working. That's why GOG is the only digital game store I will give money to.

yeah I started using GOG lately, I'm a bit late to the party I know x3
still pre-ordered the Cyberpunk 2077 Steelbook from a local games store though

Oh yeah, I buy physical copies for collecting purposes as well, when I feel like it.

However, from the purpose of being able to play the games - the GOG releases are probably even better than most physical copies, because physical copies also frequently have DRM, which can suddenly break / become unsupported. Older titles frequently have CD copy protection techniques, while newer ones require an active Steam/Uplay/Epic account and online connection, even if you installed the game from the physical media.

I doubt it, as imposing the Galaxy client would definitely not be compatible with what a good number of their customers, myself included, would consider acceptable . Just in case, though, I have archived my entire GOG library (I'm a few weeks short of fully up-to-date, though) . That means hundreds of GBs worth of data, but it is an insurance policy .
