Hi,

It's me again with my newbie questions 😀 I have couple of Trident TD9400 and I'm looking to update the memory. I think the maximum amount is additional 1mb (2x512 to the free slots) totaling 2mb?
Does anyone know what memory modules are suitable for this card, does all SOJ-40 packaged DRAM's work?

Thanks for your answers already in advance.

SOJ 40-pin 512K RAM chips will most likely work . It should be of the same type and speed rating as the RAM already installed (that is either DRAM, EDO DRAM or VRAM). The part numbers on your photo are hard to discern .

EDIT : If the part number on existing chips is tc514256aj-70 , you currently have standard DRAM. Then you would need DRAM SOJ 40 chips at 70NS or faster (70NS , 60NS , 50NS, etc would work).

Thanks for your fast reply!
Now I'm just wondering what memory modules to order from eBay 😀 If i want to add 1mb then I need two 32K x 16 modules or 64K x 8 modules (That I can't find in eBay) ? Or can I throw in bigger modules like 256K x 16 ? Or am I missunderstanding something?

To add 1MB, you must use two 256K x 16 chips . 2 x 256K x 16 = 8192K(bits)=1024KB (kilobytes)=1MB (megabyte) .

Ok, thanks! I really need to re-educate myself of the memory structures 😀
Just to double check, would these be suitable: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-x-HYB514171BJ-60-2 … Mu0AAOSwzhxa0x3~

or maybe these (I have similar in my Cirrus VLB card, just one letter is different) https://www.ebay.com/itm/1PCS-KM416C256BJ-6-D … MMAAOSwH4dcNF3R

Oh, and I forgot, there is also supply voltage to consider . Your card has 5V chips on it, so the extra RAM would need to be 5V as well. The ones linked are .

The HYB514171BJ-60 should be OK . https://www.digchip.com/datasheets/parts/data … 71BJ-60-pdf.php

The KM416C256BJ-6 should be OK as well . https://www.datasheets360.com/pdf/-2162158178216010490

I would order more than you actually need . Defects and counterfeits are likely when buying old EOL chips from unofficial source .

OK, Thanks for the info! I will place an order and come back here to tell if they worked 😀
