Galford in Samurai Shodown's got a dog
Blue Mary's got a dog
B.B.Hood in Vampire Savior's got a dog (Bishamon if you count the stage in Dstlk/Nwarr)
Final Fight has a dog that gives secret score bonuses
The unreleased 70's arcade game Cane is all about a dog
while we're on fighting game dogs, there's a playable non-anthropomorphic dog in Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2

Laughing dog at Nintendo Duck hunt 😁

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.

The Secret of Monkey Island (though they needed to be knocked out as soon as they are met - nothing violent, though).

Monkey Island 2 : Le Chuck's Revenge. The dog also named Guybrush.

Thanks all for your input, I think we start to have a solid list now. Also all your comments, pictures and link make maintaining the list a real treat! Also thanks to leileilol for all the title he fetched.

We start to see appear duplicate, but don't worry too much about it, I'll try to sort it out. Maybe eventually I will put them in alphabetic order and they will be easier to weed out.

While I appreciate people who mention similar list, I'm not too sure if I should blatantly incorporate it. Would feel like stealing a bit, what do you think ? Also I'm not sure if we should focus on very old games or not, I don't think so.

I've decided to remove my individual reply on the OP since I realized it is not a good idea. Here's my input anyway, Harvest Moon and the proper way to hold a big dog (not!):

I think arranging the list in alphabetical order makes easier cross checking if the titles provided by the contributors are already on the list.

Not a dog, but in the canine family, if anthropomorphic counts: Tails, an adorable fluffball companion to Sonic, despite always losing your rings in the special stages in S2... >_>

I still always play along with him though, even with all the disadvantages people say he brings, it's best to just focus on Sonic's ring counter in the special stages on S2 only and then Tails becomes a lot more useful as a backup of sorts. Also whenever he takes another direction out of nowhere collecting some rings along the way, or hits a badnik/ boss without you expecting it, pretty useful too 🤣.
