I've gotten KQ6 to run on Windows XP through its DOS install, but I've found that XP's quirky little imitation of DOS runs the game very poorly. (by poorly I mean that it runs at inconsistent speeds, the sound and voices skip, and generally irritating issues)

I decided trying Dosbox since it's worked very nicely with a few other games. The game does run, and very well, with the one exception that it does not play any voices. All other sounds work, but the voices do not play.

I installed the "large install" of the game so that most of the files are on my hard drive, but I think the voices are still played off the CD. I tried mounting my CD drive into Dosbox but this didn't help.

If there's any more information I can provide that might help, let me know.
Thanks

Mount a "C:" drive in DOSBox and mount your CD. Change to your CD drive and type "INSTALL" to install to game from within DOSBox. This will set the paths in your RESOURCE.CFG file to what DOSBox sees. To play the game, mount the drives the same way and change to the game's directory and start the game.

If the sound is set to 'Sound Blaster' and you still don't hear speech, maybe the cd isn't mounted properly. Mount it as such:

mount d: d:\ -t cdrom

Else you can copy the CD to your hard drive and then edit the resource.cfg to reflect the changes. (Eg. instead of D:\audio, C:\sierra\KQ6\audio)

Try the proper "-t cdrom" first.

EDIT - Collector posted minutes before me, seems I waited too long to reply.

Thank you so much! I tried copying the CD over since it seemed simpler at the time, but it turns out that KQ6 doesn't use a .cfg file. It actually uses a .msg and a .map

But installing it through dosbox worked perfectly! Thanks again 😁
