hello all

when i was updating the bios, something went wrong and failed after the blanking part and left with blank bios chip but i backed up the original bios before that happen

i have got myself a TL866II Plus programer and i am compete noob to this thing

think i managed to see what kind of chip is by peeling label back

when i go to program the original bios back to it - the flash keeps failing

i am doing something wrong and missing something

any help would great

It seems that your chip is an eprom:
http://pdf.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheet/stm … ronics/2380.pdf

[[quoting: If you have a BIOS chip with a UV window on the top (EPROM), it cannot be flash programmed in the motherboard; it needs a special UV eraser and programmer. Attempting to flash a UV-erasable BIOS in the motherboard will ruin the BIOS chip.]]

ok, so i will need erase the chip first then program bios back instead of blanking it in software

It isn't guranteed your motherboard is capable of programming EPROMs. As PARKE wrote there's a chance the attempt damaged your chip.
Have you tried reading the data from the EPROM and comparing it against the backup file?

At this point I'd just go buy an EEPROM. It's less hassle overall.

will an eeprom work in place of an eprom

i noticed on the mobo this eprom came out of has a jumper for eprom (set by default) or flash rom

which is more easy to get and restore original bios back on it

which chip should i be looking for as i have no idea what to be looking out for

would this work

I think the linked chip would work.
The important things are that it's 32 pins and the right capacity (1 megabit or 128 kilobytes in your case).
I use SST 39SF010A as they are only $1.24 apiece from DigiKey rather than having to find on ebay. Not sure if you have a source like that in the UK.

ok thank you and there a uk version digikey with being (£0.96) 96p apiece, only thing is shipping price (normal when ordering stuff from u.s. to uk) but why not try it

i have also 3x eprom of same type by st off ebay on the way aswell

so at least i have a couple of choices to try

thank you for helping and hope this works

i am assuming that flash type (SST 39SF010A) would be better than eproms as it could be more easy to fix if something goes wrong
