So i've got a dumb crossfire PC which has 2x 4890 1GB cards in it. The cards should, theoretically, be plenty powerful enough for GTA V (as 1 card can run it acceptably) but in crossfire mode GTA V sees 2GB of VRAM and automatically fills it all out, I assume because it can. This leads to a stuttery mess as it goes over the actual VRAM of the card (again, an assumption).
Is there any software or patches or anything that can limit the VRAM windows or games see?
I'm aware GTA dates after the latest 4890 driver (13.9) which I am using so there is no official crossfire support, which probably explains the double VRAM thing. Unless AMD released later Xfire profiles as a separate download? I definitely remember downloading those in 2009 or so.
