My long lived wired 360 controller has now died and whilst looking for a replacement online noticed that new old stock of it has dried up or is now "expensive".

What alternative gamepad do you recommend that will plug and play with games that use a 360 controller e.g. Fallout 3, bioshock, etc.

I'll also be using it on Windows 7 but it needs to work with XP too really (quite happy downloading drivers for that like with the 360 controller).

Two controllers I have found that cheap rubbish fake 360 controllers... but don't seem to have XP support are a Logitech F310 and MSI GC20. The logi does noth directinput and xinput so will this work on XP automatically / with the 360 drivers?

I have an old logitech rumblepad 2 from that time period and it still works as well as new. Not sure if it matches more modern controllers, but back in windows XP period it was the pc controller that got the top reviews and it still works in windows 10 just fine with steam games.

An alternative is get the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver and use a regular wireless Xbox 360 controller instead.

I second this, I have used this solution many times in the past.
