Finally got my Asus P5AD2-E Deluxe in the mail today. Got it cleaned, updated the BIOS, and installed Windows ME on an SSD for it.

With all onboard devices turned off, I managed to install drivers for all but one PCI USB device. That's right, all but one. Using the unofficial 82.69 Nvidia driver, I was able to get my 6800 Ultra PCIe to work under ME (runs 3DMark200 and Deus Ex just fine, although I did notice that my start menu was a bit glitched.

What on earth is that game in the second pic?

Deus Ex - best game ever.

Eh one I've yet to play... Was not expecting a sword.

The Dragon's Tooth. The best melee weapon in the game. You can insta-kill basically anything from behind, maybe 2-3 hits if not, IIRC. Add the melee bonus augment, and you're a melee-killing machine.

It also allows you to butcher bodies so they don't exist anymore ( }:D ), and break weak metal objects. You get it after completing the Hong Kong chapter.

Cool. I belive it's a Glide game so when I switch back to my voodoo5 pc maybe this is what I'll play.

It's also an incredibly beloved game, so if the Glide version doesn't work out well for you, you can play it on a modern system with enhancements. Also, be warned that the UI and scopes don't fully scale past a certain resolution.

Believe it or not I remember when it came out back in the day, just never got around to it 😁. I have heard it's a great game though, and for me the only way to do a great game justice is play it on an authentic build, even better if it's 3dfx!

Yeah, I first played it on my P4 rig under 98SE a little over half a year ago. Like a lot of older games, I started playing it for an hour-ish, then didn't touch it for months/years. Came back to it, and got hooked, and quickly played through the rest of it. That playthrough was godly. Such a memorable experience. I then recently installed it on my main rig and patched it with Kentie's executable and DX10 renderer. Not as memorable as the first time, but I had a lot of fun still, and found out just how imperfect the game is (for example, in the Airforce Base mission, there's a power box that you can toggle on/off for a quest, and every time you do so you get XP, even after you've already done it. Thus, you can keep toggling it on/off until you max out every single skill in your skill-tree (yep, broken). But man, do you feel like a god afterwards. 😀 I don't know if other quest-events are also exploitable, probably.

Oh, and of course the memes are godly, too:

The struggles of deciding what build to put in your single AT case. I can't decide between a ultimate P133-Voodoo rig or a DX2-66.

Speaking of Pentium, quick question: are the VRMs on these boards suppose to get scorching hot with a MMX chip installed?

Benching with a 200MMX and on this particular socket 7 board these giant VRMs get like, burning hot after awhile. As in eventually I can feel the heat radiating from it, if I put my hand near it. That hot. Not even the CPU with a big passive cooled gets that hot!

Iv NEVER felt a VRM get that warm. Ever.

I need to get Windows ME on a machine of mine, but I don't have any that is both a) compatible b) not-compatible with Real Mode DOS games with sound

I don't know why, but WinME attracts me.

Is it running at the correct split voltage? Adding a bit of airflow over the VRM's never hurts 😀

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

Playing it on 3dfx card would be a bit of a waste. It's Unreal engine based game - it will look much better on cards supporting S3TC. Savage 4, GeForce 2-4 is ideal choice. I believe high-res textures don't even work on Voodoo cards in Glide mode, and you need to play in OpenGL mode.

VRMs? You mean voltage regulator circuit or do you have a Pentium motherboard with a voltage regulator module? Yeah, the voltage regulator gots burining to the touch on some Pentium motherboards even with P133/K5 installed.

Well maybe I will pay it on my other PC with a FX5950U and bump up the AA 😁

I had trouble running the game maxed-out on my Pentium 4 672 machine with a 6800 Ultra under Windows 98SE at 1024x768 (by trouble I mean there are plenty of dips below 60fps). Just a heads up.

FX5950U will be excellent. Perhaps even with the community created high res texture and model pack (which I do recommend). If I remember correctly there is also DX9 driver which improves lighting and some other things.

Must have been some sort of compatibility issue. I had trouble playing it on my Riva TNT in 1024x768 in 16 bit back in 2000 and when I switched to GF2MX - all my problems disappeared (I might have even played it in 32 bit). I recently played it on my Athlon 1000 (Orion) and GF2GTS with all the details maxed out (it was plain game without any custom addons) and it was running just fine in 1024x768.

Got E-mail working in FreeDOS using FLMail on my VersaM/75 last night - I could pretty much "daily" that thing now as if it were a modern laptop at this point.

I have 4 ultra Xconnect 500 watt psu's and they have been great since new. I use one of them with a socket A system and that system gets a ton of use from my son and it's rock solid stable.

Nah, I think the game is just demanding. Anytime there's a lot of complex ray-tracing-like effects, for example, or I think complex fog effects and such, it'll hurt performance.

Yes it does.
Output rails

5V 30 amps

3.3V 28amps

12V 34 amps

-5V .3 amps

-12V .8 amps

+5VSB 2amps

I hope that helps.
