Hi folks,

I've been using DOSBox for a while now and have had lots of success with it, but recently I tried one of my REALLY old games - Tongue of the Fatman from Activision. In DOSBox, it loads and plays just fine via the keyboard, but I'd like to use my game pad controller. Unfortunately, I haven't had any success in getting this to work.

The controller I have is a USB Logitech Rumblepad 2, which seems to work fine for other games and other emulators. I've also tried the game on a friend's system who has a generic gamepad (unfortunately, no info on the model) and it won't work either.

Tongue of the Fatman requires you to enable Joystick support from a setup file, which I've done. Additionally, I've also got the standard DOSBox .conf setting for joysticks enabled:

[bios]
joysticktype=2axis

I've also tried 4axis, but no luck. The game just refuses to admit that a joystick is "connected".

Other than playing with the .conf a little bit, I haven't been able to think of other troubleshooting steps I could take. Any ideas?

Here's some additional information:
Motherboard: Gigabyte 8I915G LGA 775
Processor: P4 3.2 GHz
RAM: 1GB Dual Channel DDR 400 Kingston
Video Board: PCIE NVidia-based GP6600 256MB
Sound board: Sound Blaster Live! 24bit
OS: WinXP

Using DOSBox v0.65

Hope that the next version of DOSBox will support it.
Joystick support will be better there.

I am having similar problems. I have used DOSBOX for ages but rarely use joysticks except for flight sims. Now that I have gone to XP I needed to run Rebel Assault throught DOSBOX but it does not recognize my joystick. Instead it seems to think my mouse is a joystick! The conf file is set to 2-axis. I will soon be trying X-Wing, WC3, and other flight sims so I would love to know if I am doing something wrong ... which I am sure I am.

Hi Hazekel, I tried the suggestions that were made previously, but I was unable to get the gamepad to behave as an old-school joystick. I finally resigned myself to waiting for a new version of DOSBox with the promise of improved emulation. Let us know if you discover anything helpful!
