No sound using Yamaha YMF744/754 VXD drivers under Windows 98SE (Sony PCG-C1XN) (SOLVED !)

Hi there !

I have been working with some Sony PCG-C1xx models, very nice and small computers.
Under DOS for the C1XN no problems : its a YMF744 and i found withouth any difficulties a working SETUPDS for it, everything seems fine.
But i wanted to install VXD drivers 2020 on Windows 98SE on it, and despite many attemps, i have no sound at all. But the system tells me everything is fine :

Any idea what's wrong ? Maybe there is another version of this VXD driver for YMF744/754 ?

Sometimes Windows 98 may say "No conflicts" but they are. I advise to remove automatic settings checkbox from DS-XG PCI Audio CODEC and try to choose alternate configurations with IRQ 10 or 11 (but not 5! it's for legacy). Using IRQ 9 may casue conflict with ACPI. If it is not possible in Windows on your notebook then see BIOS setup. Maybe there PCI IRQ Assign settings present (or such). If yes then detect which IRQ is for integrated PCI DS-XG.

Hi !

I did find while browing for a very large collection of DS-XG drivers for Windows on this marvellous site :

So i ran some tests and suddenly, it works !
I used this version of the driver, it should would on many others computers (the common VXD drivers we may find is from Toshiba, maybe that's the problem) :

I will run some others tests on newer versions to see (hear) what happens. For now, i'm very happy 😉
